Kentucky’s recruiting run keeps picking up steam, and now the Wildcats have been put in the driver’s seat for one of the top young prospects in the country.
The latest buzz centers on Kellan Hall, the five-star sophomore from Christian Academy of Louisville. Hall is rated the No. 2 overall player in the 2028 recruiting class by the Rivals Industry Ranking, and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals now has Kentucky out front in that race after previously leaning Oklahoma.
“Sources with knowledge of the recruitment indicate that the Wildcats are running at the top for Hall,” Wiltfong writes for Rivals. “From the relationship with Coach Will Stein and his staff, to the trajectory of the program and of course the modern recruiting element and money involved there, Big Blue Nation has put themselves in great position to ultimately sign the Louisville (Ky.) Christian Academy five-star.”
Wiltfong’s updated prediction gives Kentucky a major boost, especially with the program already building momentum elsewhere on the recruiting trail. Four-star defensive back commit Tristin Hughes canceled an official visit to Louisville, and that came shortly after the Wildcats landed a commitment from 2029 quarterback Marcus Washington.
Hall’s recruitment is still a long way from the finish line, though. He is not set to sign until next December, and for now he is still working through his fall campus tour, which has included stops around some of the biggest games in the country.
Among the matchups on that list: Oregon vs. Boise State, Kentucky vs.
Alabama, Oklahoma vs. New Mexico, Georgia vs.
Oklahoma, Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, Ohio State vs.
Maryland, Michigan vs. Penn State, Texas vs.
Miss. State, Notre Dame vs.
Miami, and Tennessee vs. LSU.
The early results of that tour have been mixed. The first three home teams didn’t help their case much with Hall, but Georgia’s win over Oklahoma over the weekend may have changed the picture. Right now, the Bulldogs appear to be Kentucky’s biggest competition.
There is still plenty of time for the situation to shift before Hall makes any kind of verbal commitment, which may not come until January or later. But for Kentucky, the fact that it is even in this position says plenty about where the program stands under Will Stein.

Kentucky Fans Can Exhale After Brief Louisville Recruiting Scare
Tristin Hughes gave Kentucky fans a small scare when his recruitment briefly pointed toward Louisville, but the four-star safety from Rocky River High School in Ohio never really got far off the Wildcats track. Hughes committed to Kentucky in April, and after initially setting an official visit to Louisville, he opted not to take the trip.

Kentucky keeps looking for answers in the passing game, and Week 4 offered a small but encouraging sign. Against South Alabama, Shane Carr hauled in his first two catches as a Wildcat, including a 15-yard touchdown from Kenny Minchey in the fourth quarter, while true freshman Kenny Darby stayed involved with three receptions for 43 yards and a 27-yard grab that helped set up a scoring run.
For a Kentucky offense that has leaned on spreading the ball around, those developments matter because every new target changes how defenses have to account for the field. Rob Dillinghams NBA path has already taken another turn, and Kentucky fans have reason to keep an eye on it. The former Wildcats guard, the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, was dealt from the Chicago Bulls to the Charlotte Hornets in a move that sent Buddy Hield and cash the other way. It is the latest change of scenery for a player whose professional career started with Minnesota before he landed in Chicago and began to settle in.
Charlotte could be a meaningful spot for Dillingham because the opportunity looks real. He has one year left on his rookie contract, and the expectation is that he will have a significant role with the Hornets.
