Kentucky Star Kam Williams Stuns Bellarmine With Lights-Out Shooting Performance

Kam Williams caught fire from deep as Kentucky lit up Bellarmines zone, but defensive concerns still linger after the high-scoring win.

When a guy knocks down eight threes in a game, you don’t need to dig too deep to find the headline. Kam Williams lit it up in Kentucky’s 99-85 win over Bellarmine, putting together a career night that was as efficient as it was electric. In just 22 minutes, Williams went 8-of-10 from deep and added a perfect 2-for-2 from the line to finish with 26 points - a personal best.

That kind of shooting performance doesn’t just turn heads - it rewrites the stat sheet. Williams’ eight triples marked the most by a Kentucky player since Immanuel Quickley did it against Texas A&M back in February 2020.

And he wasn’t alone from beyond the arc. The Wildcats hit 16 threes as a team - their highest total of the season - with Denzel Aberdeen chipping in four and freshman Jasper Johnson adding three more.

Bellarmine came out in a zone, and Kentucky made them pay for it. The Wildcats spaced the floor, moved the ball, and let it fly.

The result? A barrage from deep that turned this one into a shootout - and Kentucky had the bigger guns.

But while the offense was clicking, the defense left plenty to be desired. Bellarmine shot 52% from the field, scoring 85 points - well above their season average of 77.7.

The Knights found success inside, too, outscoring Kentucky in the paint 38-34 and nearly matching them on the boards (29-26). Part of that came down to personnel: Jayden Quaintance and Brandon Garrison each logged just eight minutes, and Garrison exited in the second half with a knee injury.

That opened the door for Bellarmine to exploit the interior.

Still, when you’re shooting the way Kentucky did, you can afford a few defensive lapses. Williams’ hot hand gave the Wildcats a cushion, and the rest of the roster followed his lead. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it was an entertaining one - and a reminder of just how dangerous this Kentucky team can be when the threes are falling.

Williams gave fans eight reasons to cheer - and eight clips for the highlight reel. On a night when the defense didn’t have its best stuff, the offense more than made up for it.
