Texas A&M took a hit on the scoreboard Saturday, then got another one on Monday.
The Aggies are already dealing with the sting of a 31-21 loss to Kentucky, a result that knocked them from No. 9 to No. 23 after entering the game 2-0. Now they’ll also have to move forward without Terry Bussey, who is out for the season after getting hurt on the opening kickoff.
Bussey, a junior wide receiver and kick returner, went down in a non-contact play and had to be carted off the field. Mike Elko confirmed Monday afternoon that the injury will end his year.
"We'll look forward to him recovering and being back with us next year," Elko said, per Dave Wilson of ESPN.
It’s a significant loss for Texas A&M. Bussey arrived in College Station as a former five-star recruit from Timpson, Texas, and he was expected to be a key piece for the Aggies. He had totaled 35 catches for 411 yards and one touchdown across 2024 and 2025 combined, and he also added three rushing touchdowns.
His value extended well beyond the offense. Bussey had been a reliable option in the return game, piling up 131 yards on 16 punt returns for an average of 8.18 yards per return, and 681 yards on 30 kick returns, good for 22.7 yards per return.
That importance showed up before the season even began, when he was named to the preseason All-SEC team as a kick returner. He also entered college as the No. 1 overall athlete in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Kenny Mincheys performance against Texas A&M gave Kentucky something it has been searching for at quarterback, and the reward followed quickly. The Wildcats passer was named a Davey OBrien Great 8 Quarterback of the Week after completing 14 of 18 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns in an upset victory that turned plenty of heads.
Mincheys recognition also moved him onto the Davey OBrien Midseason Watch List, adding another layer to a week that already felt significant for his place in the offense. Kentucky Gets A Trickier Test Than Fans Expected In Week 4
Kentuckys Week 4 trip to face South Alabama looked fairly straightforward on paper not long ago, but the Jaguars have already made it clear they are not lining up as a routine nonconference opponent. Under Major Applewhite, South Alabama has come out hot with a run-first approach and an offense averaging 34.7 points a game, which gives the Wildcats a little more to sort through than they might have expected this early in the season.
The quarterback situation only adds to the uncertainty. South Alabama has been dealing with a lingering injury to Bishop Davenport, and the injury picture from the Tulane game still hangs over the position battle after Jared Hollins got the start last week.
