Kentucky’s early work on the recruiting trail is getting tested, and one of the biggest names in the mix is leaning toward a different destination.
Louisville native Kellan Hall, a 5-star defensive lineman in the class of 2028, drew positive attention from Kentucky after attending the UK-Alabama game. The Wildcats have been pushing to make inroads with the Christian Academy of Louisville standout, especially as Will Stein and his staff continue building momentum with younger classes.
But the latest forecast doesn’t point to Lexington. Sam Spiegelman of Rivals joined Steve Wiltfong on Monday in putting in an expert prediction for Hall to land at Oklahoma.
There’s still plenty of time left in the recruitment, and nothing is final. Even so, the early signs appear to favor the Sooners rather than the Wildcats. Kentucky does have one obvious advantage in the race: if any UK coach can keep Hall in-state, it would be Will Stein.
That recruiting news comes as Kentucky continues to ride a strong stretch on the field. Stein’s team picked up a top-10 win in College Station on Saturday and now turns its attention to South Alabama this weekend. The Wildcats are also drawing attention elsewhere after the win, with Kenny Minchey earning a Great 8 QB of the Week nod from UK Athletics and Stein being named Dodd Trophy National Coach of the Week.
Around the program, Kentucky volleyball has moved back into the top three, with two Wildcats earning SEC weekly honors, while the basketball conversation is already starting to build around what EvanMiya’s numbers say about the 2026-27 roster.

Kentuckys defense got the kind of national-stage jolt every staff hopes to see early in a season, holding No. 9 Texas A&M to 21 points in a 31-21 road win in College Station. The performance gave the Wildcats two more reasons to feel better about the backbone of the team, with linebacker Sam Greene and safety Jordan Castell both drawing weekly defensive honors for their work against the Aggies.
Greene was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week after finishing with six tackles, an interception and a tackle for loss, a notable step in a comeback effort that already had him on the preseason radar. Kentuckys Kicker Battle Isnt Over After Adam Zouaguis Big Moment
Adam Zouaguis rise has been one of the quieter but more important developments in Kentuckys early season, with the kicker stepping into the job after Jacob Kauwe was injured in fall camp. Since then, Zouagui has handled the role well enough to give the Wildcats stability, making 3 of 4 field goal tries over the first three games and drilling a career-long 52-yarder against Texas A&M.
Will Stein has made it clear the competition is not locked up for good, though, and Kentucky still sees value in keeping both kickers sharp in practice. The coach praised both Zouagui and Kauwe, which leaves the Wildcats in a slightly unusual spot: they have a reliable option on Saturdays, but the job itself remains very much unsettled behind the scenes. Kentuckys Week 4 trip now looks a lot less routine than it did when the schedule was first skimmed in August. South Alabama has opened the season with a surprisingly sharp offense under Major Applewhite, leaning on the run while putting up 34.7 points per game, and the Jaguars have already shown they can make life uncomfortable for a defense that expects to be the more physical group on the field.
The quarterback picture adds another layer of uncertainty for the Wildcats to sort through.
