Kentucky’s receiver room is still one of the biggest unknowns heading into Will Stein’s first season, but DJ Miller is starting to look like the kind of player who can change that conversation fast.
The sophomore wideout has spent the offseason drawing attention, and it’s easy to see why. At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, the St.
Louis native brings size to a position group that needs playmakers. He already flashed plenty as a true freshman in 2025, even if most of that production came in the back half of the schedule.
In seven games, Miller caught 13 passes for 175 yards and scored twice.
His best stretch came against Tennessee, where he put together a true breakout line: five receptions, 120 yards and two touchdowns. That performance tied the team’s single-game freshman record.
He also hauled in at least one catch in six of his seven games, and he started three games against SEC opponents. Nearly all of his catches came against conference competition.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg included Miller in his Thursday morning list of 51 breakout candidates for the upcoming season, pointing to the sophomore’s opportunity in Kentucky’s new offensive setup.
“Miller is among the holdovers on offense from the previous coaching staff, and he has a chance to see his production grow under new boss Will Stein,” Rittenberg wrote. “Miller had at least one catch in six of his seven games as a true freshman last fall, and had a breakout performance against Tennessee with five receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns, which tied the team single-game freshman record. Miller started three games against SEC opponents and had all but one of his receptions against conference foes.”
Now Miller enters 2026 in a new system with Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, with Notre Dame transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey expected to help steer the offense. Kentucky is going to need reliable targets, and Miller is one of the wideouts expected to step into that role.
Stein has made it clear he wants Miller to take a big jump as a sophomore, and Sloan sees him as a vertical threat who can stretch the field. If Miller delivers, it would give Kentucky’s offense a much better chance to hold up against the SEC’s top defenses.
