Shane Carr’s first catches in a Kentucky uniform came with a payoff.
The transfer wideout, who arrived with almost 1,400 yards over two seasons at Southern Utah, had been a notable omission from Kentucky’s receiving production through the first three games. Kenny Minchey had already spread the ball to 12 different pass-catchers, but Carr hadn’t cracked the list yet. That changed against South Alabama.
Carr hauled in his first two passes as a Wildcat, and one of them ended in the end zone. Minchey connected with him for a 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, the final points scored by either team. Kentucky Football highlighted the score on social media, calling it a “Strong connection 📶”

The question now is whether that moment leads to a bigger role moving forward. Kentucky has plenty of receiving options, but Carr adds another proven target to an offense that has made a habit of distributing the ball widely.
Another receiver kept his strong start rolling, too. Kenny Darby, the true freshman who leads Kentucky in receiving, came up with another big play against the Jaguars. Early in the fourth quarter, he hauled in a 27-yard catch on the first play of the period, helping set up Jason Patterson’s second touchdown run three plays later.
Darby has now posted a catch of 20 yards or more in every game this season, and he finished the South Alabama game with three receptions for a team-high 43 yards.
