Kentucky’s 2027 recruiting board got a fresh look this week as the major services rolled out updated high school rankings, and a few names tied to the Wildcats shifted around in noticeable ways.
The biggest Kentucky piece remains Ryan Hampton, the program’s lone commit in the class so far. Hampton checks in at No. 20 on ESPN, No. 19 on Rivals, and No. 12 on 247 Sports.
ESPN and Rivals also moved him down to 4-star status. He’s become one of the more debated prospects in the group: some evaluators see a potential elite scorer, while others think he still has a lot of development ahead before he gets close to that ceiling.
If Hampton wants to climb back to 5-star territory at ESPN and Rivals, he’ll need a strong finish to the AAU season.
Another name drawing plenty of attention is Marcus Spears Jr., Hampton’s cousin and the son of an NFL great. Spears is still No. 1 on ESPN and 247 Sports, but Rivals made the biggest adjustment, dropping him to No. 7 overall and listing him as a 4-star.
Rivals’ latest update includes only two 5-star prospects. Even with that slide, Spears remains one of the most respected players in the class, thanks to his 6-foot-9 frame and a versatile offensive skill set that has made him a target for programs across the country.
C.J. Rosser is another major Kentucky target who has stayed near the top of every ranking.
Rosser, the player Mark Pope and Mikhail McClean went fishing with, has the same kind of size-and-position appeal as Spears. At 6-foot-9 with a strong build, he’s viewed as someone who could fit in quickly at the next level because of his physicality.
He’s now ranked No. 4 by ESPN, No. 1 by Rivals, and No. 3 by 247 Sports.
Kentucky’s 2027 recruiting reach has gone well beyond those three names. The staff has also been in contact with several other highly rated prospects, including point guard Beckham Black, small forward Demarcus Henry, and combo guard Adan Diggs.
Black is No. 2 on ESPN, No. 3 on Rivals, and No. 2 on 247 Sports. Henry sits at No. 3 on ESPN, No. 5 on Rivals, and No. 5 on 247 Sports.
Diggs is ranked No. 5 on ESPN, No. 2 on Rivals, and No. 4 on 247 Sports.
It’s still early, but Kentucky has already made itself part of the conversation with a wide-ranging group of top 2027 prospects.

Kentucky Just Made The Cut For A 5-Star Pope Needs
DeMarcus Henrys recruitment is starting to tighten, and Kentucky is still in the mix for one of the classs most coveted wings. The 5-star small forward from Arizona Compass Prep has been one of the more intriguing names on the board, thanks to a smooth scoring package that has made him a difficult cover at every level and helped him stand out at the NBA Top 100 camp in June.
For Mark Pope and his staff, the appeal is obvious. Henry brings the kind of shot-making and versatile offense that can translate in a hurry, especially for a program looking to keep stacking high-end perimeter talent, and Kentucky now has a real chance to stay in the conversation as his recruitment moves into a more serious stage. The next step will be seeing whether the Wildcats can turn that interest into something more concrete before the race narrows even further. [Read more 🡒]
Kentucky Is Suddenly In The Middle Of A Massive 5-Star Battle
Kentuckys recent recruiting surge has put Mark Pope and his staff in a strong position with one five-star already in the fold and another high-end target now squarely on the board. Ryan Hamptons commitment gave the Wildcats a big early win, and the attention has quickly shifted to Demarcus Henry, a coveted wing whose blend of size, skill and upside has made him one of the more closely watched names in the class.
Henry has trimmed his list to eight schools, with Kentucky still very much in the mix, and the next step is getting him on campus. A visit would give the Wildcats a chance to build on the momentum they have already created, especially with Mo Williams having played a notable role in Hamptons recruitment and now part of the broader effort to keep Kentucky in the hunt as the battle tightens.
