Kentucky got a major recruiting visitor on campus this weekend, and the early read on that trip looks encouraging.
Lewis Uvwo, a top-10 recruit and 5-star center, was in Lexington beginning Friday before sticking around to watch Kentucky face Alabama at Kroger Field on Saturday. That visit mattered for Mark Pope and the Wildcats, who entered the weekend needing to close some ground in the race for one of the class’s premier big men.
According to a report from Jack Pilgrim of KSR, Kentucky has made a real move in Uvwo’s recruitment.
“Going into the Kentucky visit, the Wildcats had real ground to make up to be considered legitimate players in this recruitment. Multiple sources close to Uvwo tell KSR that they are now a threat and could pull this off, but there is a long road ahead with follow-up conversations necessary in the coming weeks to decide if Lexington is home,” Pilgrim wrote.
Uvwo is listed at 6-11 and 225 pounds and plays at Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is also regarded as the No. 1 center in the 2027 class.
For a Kentucky staff that has had its share of misses on the high school trail since Pope arrived in Lexington, this would be a big one. The Wildcats already have 5-star forward Ryan Hampton committed, and landing Uvwo would give the program another major building block.
Pair that with the work Kentucky has done in the portal, and the roster picture starts to look a lot more like a team built to contend again.
