Kentucky’s upset of No. 9 Texas A&M did more than add another win to the ledger. It also helped push the Wildcats into the conversation with one of the younger quarterback prospects on their board.
2029 3-star quarterback Marcus Washington Jr. has committed to Kentucky Football, giving head coach Will Stein another piece for the future. Washington doesn’t yet carry a national ranking because he is only a sophomore in high school, but that could change as he keeps developing.
The 6-foot, 165-pound quarterback plays at Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California. Kentucky beat out a group of suitors that included Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas A&M, and others.
The Wildcats got in early with Washington, extending an offer in May before bringing him to Lexington for an unofficial visit on Sept. 12. Kentucky’s 31-21 win over Texas A&M seemed to leave a strong impression and only deepened his interest in the program.
Washington’s pledge also fits into a quarterback room that already looks set up for the years ahead. Kenny Minchey is expected to lead the team this season and next, while Matt Ponatoski could take over in 2028. Kentucky also already has 4-star 2027 quarterback Jake Nawrot committed, adding another notable arm to the pipeline.
Kentucky could still target another quarterback for its 2028 class, but the position is shaping up well under Stein. Washington’s recruitment is far from finished, and a lot can still change, but for now the Wildcats have added another young quarterback to develop as they keep building for what’s next.

Kenny Mincheys rise has started to draw more attention than most Kentucky quarterbacks get this early in a tenure, and the interest makes sense after the way he handled Texas A&M. The CBS Sports spotlight on his path from high school to Notre Dame and then Kentucky gave some background to the moment, but the performance itself did plenty of the talking, with Minchey completing 14 of 18 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
Minchey also opened up about the people and places shaping the latest chapter of his career, from his relationship with coach Will Stein to the rougher lessons he took from past games against Alabama. Kentucky Still Has A Shot At Elite LB As Recruitment Tightens
Judah Blairs recruitment is starting to sharpen, and Kentucky remains very much in the mix for one of the more coveted linebackers in the 2028 class. The four-star from Lakota West High School in Ohio is the No. 82 overall prospect and No. 6 linebacker in the cycle, and he is sorting through a group of major programs that includes schools from the ACC, Big Ten, SEC and beyond.
Blair has said education and coaching quality will matter in the end, which fits the way his recruitment is trending as he weighs stability and player development at the next level.
