Kentucky’s recruiting board just got a little more interesting with the arrival of Reese Alston in Lexington.
The top-10 point guard and one of the premier guards in the class wrapped up an official visit with the Wildcats, adding another stop to a recruiting tour that is starting to take shape. Kentucky has already welcomed other elite targets such as Lewis Uvwo and Paul Osaruyi, and Alston now joins the list of high-end prospects who have come through campus this cycle.
Alston’s path to this point has been busy. After turning heads over the summer at Puma NXT Pro and the NBPA Top 100 Camp, he narrowed his options to seven schools: Kentucky, Louisville, Houston, LSU, Vandy and Wichita State.
He has already taken official visits to Tennessee and LSU, and before those trips his only visits had been unofficials to Kentucky, Louisville and Wichita State. His first Kentucky stop came last year for Big Blue Madness.
This time, he was back in Lexington for an official.
The Wildcats’ pursuit of Alston has picked up considerably since the coaching staff evaluated him during the summer. The most talked-about angle in his recruitment has been a possible Kentucky-Louisville showdown, with the Cardinals in the mix longer than Kentucky.
Still, there’s a connection worth noting on the UK side: assistant Mikhail McLean played at Alston’s high school, Houston Second Baptist. How much that matters in the end is unclear, but it has clearly been part of the mutual interest between the two sides.
If Kentucky lands him, the staff would be getting a lead guard with a clear identity. 247 Sports’ Adam Finkelstein described him this way:
"Alston is a playmaking lead guard who consistently creates offense for himself and his teammates. He’s an offensive engine who both thrives and is most comfortable as the primary domino in his team’s attack.
He has adequate positional size and length, deceptive strength and balance through contact, good open floor speed, and some sneaky leaping ability when he has a runway. ... While he’s able to generate shots regardless of the tempo of the game, he’s at his best in the open court.
His quick instincts, playmaking and passing feel all shine in the open space of a fast-paced game."
With visits stacking up and decision time drawing closer, Kentucky and Louisville remain the matchup to watch in Alston’s recruitment.

Zoom Diallo Is Bringing A Mindset Kentucky Fans Will Love
Kentuckys offseason addition at point guard is already talking like someone who understands what Rupp Arena is supposed to feel like. Zoom Diallo came through the transfer portal with an eye toward more than just filling a roster spot, stressing the importance of homecourt advantage and the kind of crowd energy that can turn a normal night into something bigger. For a program that lives on atmosphere as much as talent, that is a pretty good place to start.
Diallo also brings a reputation that should resonate with Wildcats fans beyond the buzzwords. His former high school coach pointed to his winning mentality and competitiveness as defining traits, the sort of edge Kentucky hopes will show up when games tighten up and the arena starts to sway. The bigger question now is how quickly that mindset translates once the games start counting. [Read more 🡒]
Kentucky Just Proved Something Big As Morgan Gaerte Wait Continues
Kentucky volleyball keeps finding ways to win even while waiting for one of its most important players to get healthy. The Wildcats are 10-2 on the season and just swept No. 7 Texas, a result that stood out even more because Morgan Gaerte was unavailable after getting hit in the eye in practice. Craig Skinner said Gaerte is being monitored and praised the group for handling the setback and still delivering one of its best results of the year.
For Kentucky, the bigger picture is just as encouraging as the immediate one. The Wildcats now move deeper into SEC play with Auburn and Florida coming up, and the ability to keep their level high while Gaerte is day-to-day gives this team a little more resilience than it might have shown a week ago. The question now is how long that edge can hold if they have to keep going without her. [Read more 🡒]
Kentucky Heads Into A Bigger Test Than South Carolina Usually Brings
Kentucky is heading into a familiar kind of SEC measuring stick, only this one carries a little more edge than the average trip to Columbia. Shane Beamer has flipped the recent history in South Carolina's favor since taking over in 2020, and the Gamecocks have beaten the Wildcats four straight times under his watch. For first-year Kentucky coach Will Stein, the matchup also comes with an added layer of familiarity, since he has spoken with respect about Beamer based on previous interactions.
South Carolina's recent SEC form has made the game feel less stable than usual for the home side, but Kentucky still has to solve the same defensive puzzle that has bothered it before. Clayton White's unit has consistently made life difficult for the Wildcats, and the underlying challenge has been getting enough offense going early enough to avoid chasing the game. For a Kentucky team still trying to establish itself under Stein, this is the sort of test that can reveal a lot in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]
