Kentucky’s win at Oklahoma gave the Wildcats a meaningful bump in the latest Associated Press Top 25, but not a leap into the upper tier.
After a wild Saturday that saw five of the top seven teams in last week’s poll go down, Kentucky still only climbed from No. 15 to No. 12. The Wildcats moved past Missouri, Texas and Alabama, all of whom lost, but Georgia, Notre Dame and Indiana stayed ahead of Kentucky despite their defeats.
It leaves Will Stein’s team in a strong spot, just not a top-10 one. Kentucky was last this high in the AP poll on Sept. 26, 2022, when it checked in at No. 7.
The timing of the ranking matters because the Wildcats are also in first place in the SEC with a 4-1 conference record. They’re tied with No.
5 Georgia at the top of the league standings, while No. 7 Ole Miss and No.
11 Tennessee each have only one conference loss but have played one fewer SEC game so far. Kentucky has already won three road SEC games for the first time since 2009.
The Wildcats’ 21-13 victory at Oklahoma came with Stein downplaying the importance of where the team sits in the rankings.
“I’m not really worried about where we’re ranked, what our record is,” Stein said after the 21-13 win at Oklahoma. “It’s all about, how can we improve?
This was a big win on the road. Whenever you can win on the road in the SEC, it gives you a lot of confidence.
“I just talk about our process and our ability to double down on what we’re doing for our players. So, not really worried about any standings. I know how quickly that can turn if you don’t take care of business the following week.”
Kentucky also climbed in the coaches poll, moving from No. 17 to No. 12.
There’s still a tricky stretch ahead. Kentucky is an 11.5-point favorite over unranked Vanderbilt this week, then gets a Halloween bye before closing with a demanding final four games: a trip to Tennessee, a home game against No.
22 Missouri, another home date with No. 20 Florida and the regular-season finale against Louisville at Kroger Field.

Kentucky Turned Oklahomas Pregame Disrespect Into A Brutal Response
Before kickoff in Norman, Oklahoma players crossed a line that gave Kentucky plenty of bulletin-board material, placing pictures of Wildcats players in urinals and urinating on them. The stunt spread quickly and added an edge to a matchup Kentucky was already treating like a chance to make a statement.
Kentucky answered with a 21-13 upset and the celebration inside the locker room carried the tone of a team that had not forgotten the pregame slight. Players posted social media clips from the scene, including one showing a belt swung at Oklahoma's mascot and another holding up a screenshot of the restroom incident, turning the whole episode into the kind of postgame banter that can linger long after the final whistle. Kentuckys Defense Turned A Slugfest Into A First-Place SEC Statement
Kentuckys win over Oklahoma had all the feel of a grind-it-out SEC afternoon until the defense turned it into something bigger. The Wildcats came away with a 21-13 victory to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play, a result that left them tied for first place in the SEC and gave the program a statement win built more on disruption than style points.
The tone was set by a defense that forced four turnovers and kept Oklahoma from ever finding much rhythm. Jordan Castell delivered the clincher with an interception returned for a touchdown, while Kenny Minchey supplied enough offense with two touchdown passes. MiQuise Humphrey-Grace was part of the constant pressure up front, helping swing the field with a key pass deflection and sacks as Kentuckys defense turned a slugfest into a signature night.
