Kentucky Has A Real Shot At A Massive In-State Recruiting Win

Michigan remains a fierce contender in the race to secure top football recruit Kellan Hall, as anticipation builds for his commitment announcement.

Michigan is still very much in the mix for Kellan Hall, and the next few weeks will tell the story.

Hall, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, is set to announce his commitment at the Jan. 3 Under Armour All-American Game. Before that decision comes down, the consensus five-star defensive lineman has three more November visits lined up: Notre Dame, Tennessee and Ohio State.

The Wolverines are one of 12 finalists still in the hunt. Along with Michigan, Hall is considering LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, Texas and Ohio State. He also picked up offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State and Indiana, among others.

Recent visits have kept Michigan in the conversation. According to On3.com’s Steve Wiltfong, Hall “had great visits to Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Georgia” over the last few weeks. Michigan’s defense should also help its case; the unit enters this week ranked No. 3 nationally by ESPN’s SP+.

Still, the Wolverines may have some ground to make up. With Michigan having lost three of its last four games, Hall’s latest round of visits may have shifted the pecking order. Wilfong said that among the four schools Hall just saw, “the Bulldogs likely gave him the most to think about” after his trip to Athens.

That doesn’t mean the door is closed on Michigan. It just means the Wolverines will have to hold serve while Hall finishes the rest of his tour, and the results on the field over the rest of the season could matter just as much as the pitches being made off it.

Kentucky is also making this recruitment interesting, especially for a native of Louisville. Hall appears to have real interest in staying home, and the Wildcats have gone hard after him under new head coach Will Stein. He was on hand for Kentucky’s 35-34 win over LSU, and the experience clearly stood out.

“What a great night for the state of Kentucky,” Hall said after Kentucky’s win over LSU. “A sold-out crowd, something that I haven't seen at Kroger Field in my lifetime.

It's hard to explain because it was a night where it was really about being a kid and not a recruit. Really emotional, with so many of my family and friends being in attendance.

Kentucky definitely has my attention, and we will see where it goes from here. They made a statement to the rest of the country tonight.”

Kentucky Could Get A Huge Defensive Boost At Tennessee

A key piece of Kentuckys defense appears set to come back at just the right time. Linebacker Sam Greene, who has been one of the Wildcats more important defensive players, is expected to return for the Nov. 7 trip to Tennessee after sitting out the previous game with a left knee injury.

Will Stein confirmed Greenes progress and said the expectation is that he will be fully available in Knoxville. For a Kentucky defense heading into an ESPN game on the road, getting Greene back adds both experience and stability to a matchup that already figures to carry plenty of weight. [Read more 🡒]

Kentuckys Playoff Path Suddenly Looks Vulnerable In Crowded SEC Race

The SEC race is already turning into the kind of year where one late stumble could rewrite everything, and Joel Klatts latest playoff read only adds to the noise around Kentuckys path. On FOX Sports, he floated the idea that a team like LSU could still land in the 2026 College Football Playoff with three losses, pointing to a league where several teams could finish 9-3 and leave the committee sorting through a crowded field rather than a clean hierarchy.

For Kentucky, that kind of scenario makes every conference game feel even heavier, because the Wildcats are not just chasing wins, they are trying to avoid getting buried by timing and tiebreakers in a race full of direct comparisons. Klatts projection had LSU beating Alabama and Tennessee in November while Kentucky dropped two games, a combination that would tilt the conversation toward Baton Rouge if the committee ends up weighing head-to-head results and who finishes hottest at the right moment. Kentucky Just Lost A Key 2027 Target At The Worst Spot

Kentuckys 2027 recruiting board took a hit with the news that Lewis Uvwo has committed to Providence, giving Bryan Hodgson a major win on the back line. The seven-foot center had been on Kentuckys radar for a while, and the Wildcats had already brought him to campus for a visit, which made him a real name to watch as the class began to take shape.

Now Kentucky has to pivot again in its search for size, and the attention has already shifted to another towering target. Sherif Millogo, a 7-foot-5 center with notable skills, remains a key name in the Wildcats 2027 efforts, and losing Uvwo only raises the importance of landing the next big man on their board.
