Kentucky Gets An Early Chance To Silence Doubts At Tennessee

Can Tennessee maintain its historical dominance over Kentucky, or will the Wildcats continue their winning streak under new head coach Will Stein in this pivotal SEC showdown?

Tennessee’s trip through the bye week came with plenty of time to sit on a bad memory, and now the Volunteers get a chance to answer it at home.

The 16th-ranked Vols are set to host Kentucky in a Week 10 SEC matchup Saturday at 6:15 p.m. ET on ESPN, with Tennessee installed as a 6.5-point favorite by Circa Sports. The opening over-under is 51.5 points.

Tennessee enters at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC after its collapse at South Carolina on Oct. 24, a loss that left its College Football Playoff hopes very much in play as it heads into this one. Kentucky, meanwhile, arrives with momentum and a ranking of its own. The 8th-ranked Wildcats have won six straight, are 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC, and are in uncharted territory as they move through Will Stein’s first season in Lexington.

The setting only adds to it. Neyland Stadium will be packed, both teams are coming off bye weeks, and the early number says Tennessee is still the side the market trusts more.

This rivalry goes all the way back to 1893, when Kentucky beat Tennessee 56-0. Since then, though, the Volunteers have taken control of the series in a big way. Tennessee leads the all-time matchup 85-26-9 and has won the last five meetings.

That streak gives Kentucky a clear target Saturday night: end the run, and make the opening line look shaky in the process.

Kentucky Faces A Huge Tennessee Chance With The Vols Still Unsettled

Kentuckys next trip back onto the field comes with plenty more than bragging rights attached. When the Wildcats head to Tennessee on Nov. 7, theyll do so with both teams sitting in the thick of the SEC race, Kentucky tied for first and the Vols trying to stay close enough to keep their own championship hopes alive.

The stakes stretch well beyond one November afternoon, with the outcome carrying real weight for the league title picture and the College Football Playoff conversation. Tennessee still has one major question hanging over the matchup, too, as the Vols continue sorting through two candidates at quarterback and the uncertainty adds another layer to an already pivotal game. Kentuckys Spotlight Stretch Just Added More Stakes For Florida

Kentuckys November run is starting to take on a bigger stage, and the SECs latest game-time announcement only adds to the intrigue. The Wildcats are set for a primetime ESPN slot against Tennessee on Nov. 7, and now the league has placed the Florida matchup on Nov. 14 in the same window, with kickoff slated for somewhere between 6 and 7 p.m. ET pending final confirmation after this weekends results.

For Kentucky, it means another spotlight game in a stretch that will ask a lot of the team and keep the attention fixed squarely on what happens in Lexington. Florida has long been one of the more watched dates on the schedule, and with the Wildcats already lined up for consecutive night games, the stakes around that mid-November meeting only feel higher as the full slate continues to come into view. Kentucky Closing In On One Big Man As Another Slips Away

Kentuckys frontcourt recruiting picture is starting to come into focus, and it looks like the Wildcats are in strong position with one of the most intriguing big men in the class. Seven-foot-five center Cherif Millogo has taken recent visits to USC and BYU, but recruiting analyst Joe Tipton says he remains committed to Kentucky, a good sign for a program that has made size a priority as it builds out its next wave of talent.

The flip side is that another name once tied closely to Kentucky now appears headed elsewhere. Four-star power forward Paul Osaruyi is expected to choose Mississippi State, narrowing the Wildcats options as they sort through a class that is likely to be small because of the players already set to return. For now, Kentucky still looks likely to add Millogo and Ryan Hampton in 2027, but the rest of the board seems to be shifting quickly. [Read more 🡒]
