Kentucky Football Set to Hire Rising Coach With Pac-12 Ties

Kentucky adds a rising defensive mind with a proven track record in player development to lead its cornerbacks unit.

Kentucky football is making a key addition to its defensive staff, with Allen Brown reportedly set to become the Wildcats’ new cornerbacks coach. It’s a move that brings a rising defensive mind to Lexington-one who’s built a reputation for developing talent and elevating secondaries across multiple programs.

Brown arrives from Cal, where he most recently served on the Golden Bears’ staff during a season that saw their defense quietly put together one of the more impressive statistical showings in the country. Cal ranked seventh nationally in fewest touchdown passes allowed-a testament to a disciplined, well-coached secondary that played with toughness and technique. That kind of production doesn’t happen by accident, and Brown’s fingerprints were all over it.

But this isn’t Brown’s first stop in a Power Five program, and it certainly won’t be his last if his trajectory continues. His coaching journey began back in 2015 at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where he cut his teeth as a cornerbacks coach.

From there, he made a name for himself at Eastern Washington, serving as both the cornerbacks coach and Defensive Pass Game Coordinator. That stint lasted through 2021 and gave him a platform to showcase his ability to both teach and scheme at a high level.

In 2022, Brown stepped into the Power Five world, joining Cal as a Defensive Quality Control coach. He then took on the same role at Florida, earning valuable SEC experience-something that no doubt factored into Kentucky’s interest. In 2024, he returned to the West Coast to coach cornerbacks at Washington State before reuniting with the Cal staff in 2025.

Now, he’s headed to the SEC once again, this time with a full position room under his guidance. And he joins a Kentucky program in transition under new head coach Will Stein, who’s made it clear his philosophy centers around maximizing talent-“feed the studs,” as he’s put it. Brown fits that mold perfectly.

Across five different stops, Brown has coached nine all-conference defensive backs, two Freshman All-Americans, and two more players who earned All-American honors. His track record of player development is real-and it’s recent.

At Cal, he played a role in the growth of Daniel Scott, who went on to be drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. At Washington State, he helped mold Ethan O’Conner into a standout defensive back-O’Conner is now a key piece of a Miami (FL) defense that just knocked off Texas A&M in the College Football Playoffs.

This hire also helps round out Kentucky’s defensive staff, which already includes Jay Bateman, Anwar Stewart (Defensive Line and Outside Linebackers/Defensive Ends), and Safeties Coach Josh Christian-Young. With Brown now in the fold, the Wildcats are adding another sharp defensive mind-someone who knows how to build a secondary from the ground up and has done it at nearly every level of college football.

For a Kentucky team looking to reestablish itself in a loaded SEC, bringing in a coach like Allen Brown-one with a proven eye for talent and a knack for development-could be a difference-maker.
