Kentucky got a rare chance to be on the winning side of the joke in the latest SEC Shorts video, and the Wildcats fit right into the punchline after their 31-21 upset win at No. 9 Texas A&M.
The Week 3 sketch centered on LSU’s loss at Ole Miss, with Lane Kiffin’s return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium serving as the setup. A sleepy Tigers fan rides the “Lane Train,” only to be told the stop in Oxford will be “very brief” before the trip continues “on to our final destination, the College Football Playoff.”
“We know you have lots of options when spending $91 million,” she says, referring to Kiffin’s seven-year contract in Baton Rouge, “and we thank you for spending it on the Lane Train.”
Morgan Freeman then takes over the narration as the video leans into LSU’s swagger before the Ole Miss side hijacks the moment, stealing both valuables and contender status with the win. After the emotional reunion in Oxford, the Tigers fan tries to reset and move on.
That’s when Kentucky gets pulled into the joke.
“We took the loss, but now the game and the drama is over. We can just focus on football,” the LSU fan says.
“… At least the rest of our schedule’s not too bad. We’ve got Mississippi State and Kentucky, right?”
“Hope is a dangerous thing,” Morgan Freeman responds as Wildcat and Bulldog jerseys appear on screen. “It can drive a man insane, because sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel is just another train coming from the other direction.”
“Well, when you’re right, you’re right, Morgan,” he fires back.
For once, Kentucky wasn’t the target. Instead, the Wildcats got to join the fun, with “the Steinasty in Lexington” landing the final wink in a video that made room for the new vibe in Lexington.
