Kentucky Could Be Headed For A Brutal Recruiting Week

Kentucky Basketball faces a tough recruiting season as top prospects lean towards other schools in their upcoming commitment announcements.

Kentucky is in the middle of a big stretch on the recruiting trail, but the guesses here point away from Lexington on all three fronts.

Three top-10 prospects in the class of 2027 - Lewis Uvwo, Reese Alston and DeMarcus Henry - are set to reveal their decisions over the next three days, and the predictions send each one elsewhere. Uvwo is projected to Baylor, Alston to LSU and Henry to North Carolina.

Uvwo, the elite defensive force in the group, is the first one up. At 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, he has built his reputation on rim protection and shot-blocking, and the expectation is that Scott Drew and Baylor win out over Kentucky, California and Providence.

Mark Pope and his staff reportedly spent plenty of time on him, but this prediction has him heading to Waco instead. If that happens, Kentucky would need to shift its attention to other frontcourt options like Paul Osaruyi or Cherif Millogo.

There is also a note of future roster space in Lexington, with the assumption that Malachi Moreno is headed off to the NBA after his sophomore season. Uvwo is scheduled to announce on Wednesday, October 28, at 3:30 PM ET.

Alston’s recruitment has been a major Kentucky focus, too. Pope made him a priority over the other guards in the class of 2027, even choosing the Puma Pro16 over a trip to Peach Jam on day one to see other top prospects.

There are also familiar ties here: Pope played in the NBA with Alston’s father, Rafer Alston, and Kentucky assistant Mikhail McLean went to the same high school as the 6-foot-2 point guard. Even with that background, the prediction is LSU, with Will Wade landing what would be his first major recruit since returning to Baton Rouge.

Kentucky, Wichita State, Tennessee and Louisville are the other schools in the mix. Alston is set to decide on Thursday, October 29, at 4:00 PM ET.

Henry’s situation has drawn plenty of attention as well. The Charlotte native is expected to stay close to home and choose North Carolina after a recruitment that has included plenty of visits and recap videos from his time on campus.

He recently finished a trip to Chapel Hill, where one of the biggest developments was a phone call from Michael Jordan. Michael Malone and his staff are still pushing, and Mark Pope also made the trip to see Henry in Arizona before the decision.

Pat Kelsey and John Calipari were there too, along with another in-person meeting with Henry on Wednesday in Arizona. Even so, the prediction is that Kentucky, Louisville and Arkansas come up short, with Henry headed to the Tar Heels.

His announcement is due Friday, October 30, though no exact time has been set.

In the end, the forecast is a clean sweep against Kentucky. The Cats are projected to miss on all three, with Pope still waiting for that first huge top-10 recruiting hit.

Braydon Hawthorne Just Gave Kentucky Fans A Real Early Question

Braydon Hawthorne gave Kentucky a useful glimpse of what he can bring in the exhibition matchup with UCF, and it went beyond just the points. He had seven by halftime, mixed in three blocked shots and looked comfortable enough on the floor to keep looking for his offense, even as the Wildcats were working through absences from other players.

What stood out most was the trust he earned in a pressure spot, with Kentucky turning to him on the final out-of-bounds play. He did not convert the two chances, but the fact that he was the one taking them says plenty about where he fits right now and why his early showing already has Kentucky fans wondering how much more he can be asked to do. Kentuckys Open Week Puts The SEC Race Front And Center

Kentuckys open week arrives with the Wildcats in a spot they havent enjoyed in a while: sitting at No. 9 in the AP Top 25, riding a six-game winning streak and very much in the thick of the SEC race at 7-1 overall and 5-1 in league play. The timing of the bye adds a little extra intrigue, because while the Wildcats are idle, the rest of the conference is still busy sorting itself out with ranked teams, rivalry games and other matchups that could shape the standings before Kentucky returns to action.

All eyes will turn again toward the Wildcats on Nov. 7, when Tennessee comes to town, but this week gives Kentucky a chance to watch the leagues pecking order shift from the sideline. There are notable games across the SEC schedule and beyond, including ones involving former Kentucky players and coaches, and those results could end up carrying real weight for a team trying to stay in the hunt as the stretch run begins. Kentuckys Best Lineup Is Taking Shape Around One Big Debate

After three exhibition games, Kentuckys early 2026-27 lineup picture is starting to come into focus, and the biggest decisions have mostly been made on the floor. Mason Williams has pushed ahead of Zoom Diallo at point guard, Alex Wilkins has looked like the better fit at shooting guard even with some turnover issues, and Milan Momcilovic has continued to stand out as the best player on the roster. At the forward spots, Ousmane NDiaye appears to have the edge over Justin McBride at power forward, while Malachi Moreno has settled in as the starting center.

The shape of that group leaves Kentucky with a clearer sense of its rotation, but it also underscores the one debate that still hangs over the front end of the season. The Wildcats have enough performances to see where the preferred five may be headed, yet the exhibition work has also shown how much depends on balancing talent with execution. For now, the staff can point to a lineup that has separated itself, even if the questions around how it all fits together are not fully gone. [Read more 🡒]
