Kentucky All-Star Teams Set With Headliners Named

Reece Davidson and Ashlin James lead Kentucky's standout rosters in the historic Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Basketball showdown at Thomas More University on April 11.

The Battle at the Border is set to light up Thomas More University on April 11, featuring all-star basketball teams from Kentucky and Ohio. The girls will tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the boys at 7 p.m. This storied matchup is in its 33rd year, with the Ohio boys leading their series 18-14, while the Kentucky girls hold the same advantage.

Kentucky’s past rosters have boasted talents like Anthony Epps and Chris Lofton. This year, although Mr.

Basketball Jake Feldhaus is out due to travel plans, the team is still stacked. Liberty signee Reece Davidson from North Laurel is a standout, having posted impressive numbers in recent state tournaments.

Davidson's versatility is evident with his averages of 19.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, shooting over 54% from the field and sinking 55 threes.

The Kentucky lineup also features Jacob Spurlock from Boyd County and Jeremiah Jackson from St. X, who played a pivotal role in his team reaching the state championship game. Jackson’s semifinal performance was stellar, and he’s consistently averaged 16 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Guiding the Kentucky boys is Nate Valentine of North Laurel, with Shawn Busick of Danville Christian assisting.

On the girls’ side, Miss Basketball Ashlin James leads Kentucky. The Indiana signee has been a force, scoring over 2,200 points in her high school career. Her contributions were crucial in Assumption’s journey to the state title game.

Joining James are talents like Jaidan Koch, a sharpshooter headed to the University of Southern Indiana, and Kennedy Lane, who set multiple scoring records at Daviess County. Lane’s impressive 23.3 points per game highlight her scoring prowess.

Kirsten Collins of Calloway County will coach the Kentucky girls, with Caryn Kpvatch assisting.

The excitement kicks off early with the Slam Jam Festival Night of Stars on April 10, featuring a variety of skills competitions. It’s a free event, promising thrilling one-on-one and slam dunk battles.

This annual clash began as a charitable endeavor for the Ronald McDonald House, thanks to the vision of Randy Ward and others. Originally hosted at Shawnee State University, it found a new home at Thomas More University in 2002. This event not only showcases top-tier talent but also continues a legacy of community support and sportsmanship.
