Kam Williams Stuns Fans With Comeback Just in Time for NCAA Tournament

Kentucky star Kam Williams is optimistic about his return from injury just in time to make an impact in his NCAA Tournament debut.

ST. LOUIS - Kam Williams is back on the court, and it’s a comeback story worth celebrating. Just under two months after surgery for a broken foot, Williams has returned, ready to make an impact for Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.

The injury, sustained mid-game against Texas on January 21, sidelined him for the rest of the regular season. But Williams’ determination has brought him back in time for March Madness.

In St. Louis, ahead of Kentucky's first-round clash with Santa Clara, Williams shared insights into his recovery journey. Before the injury, the former Tulane sharpshooter was hitting his stride, and now, his focus is on regaining that form.

“I’ve worked hard in the training room to get back to where I was,” Williams said. “Taking those weeks off made it tough to get back into the game flow, but playing in Nashville and practicing has helped.”

Williams emphasized the importance of participating in the SEC Tournament, even amid concerns that his return might have been premature. The experience gave him valuable court time to ease back into competitive play.

“Those reps in Nashville were crucial,” Williams noted. “If I hadn’t played, coming into the tournament fresh would have been tough. I appreciate the staff for helping me get back.”

While Williams feels better this week than last, he acknowledges there’s more healing ahead. “It’ll probably take another month for the bone to fully heal,” he admitted.

“But it doesn’t hurt much. I can jump and run.

I feel good.”

For Williams, missing the NCAA Tournament was never an option. “Being here is amazing, something you dream about growing up,” he said. “I’m excited-it’s my first tournament, and I want to win a national championship.”

Whether that dream becomes reality remains to be seen, but Kentucky benefits from his return. His presence as a 3-point threat enhances the team’s offensive dynamics and provides depth to manage player minutes.

The journey begins Friday when Kentucky faces the Santa Clara Broncos, led by former UK assistant Herb Sendek. Tipoff is set for 11:15 a.m. local time, 12:15 p.m. ET, airing live on CBS, with Kentucky favored by 3.5 points.
