Kam Mercer, the top-ranked point guard in the 2028 Rivals Industry Ranking, is gearing up for another visit to Kentucky. This marks his second trip to the campus, and he's set to catch the Kentucky vs.
Vanderbilt game on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 190 pounds, Mercer hails from Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. His first unofficial visit to Kentucky happened in the fall, where he was struck by the passionate fanbase and their respect for Coach Mark Pope, despite his relatively short tenure.
Recently, Mercer has been busy making the rounds with unofficial visits to Ohio State and Louisville in January, and he's also checked out Xavier. His talent has attracted offers from schools like Ohio State, Louisville, Xavier, Missouri, Cincinnati, Georgia State, and Florida State, among others.
Breaking Down Mercer's Game
As a standout from Cincinnati's Princeton High, Mercer is not just any four-star recruit. He’s the nation’s No. 1 point guard and ranks as the No. 11 overall prospect per the Rivals Industry Ranking, which balances insights from all three major recruiting services. Rivals specifically lists him as the No. 2 point guard and the No. 14 overall player in the 2028 class.
Mercer himself sees a natural fit with Kentucky’s style. "I love to play with pace and to space the floor, and that’s one thing Kentucky does," he shared. His versatility is a key asset, allowing him to defend and play multiple positions, which meshes well with a fast-paced, run-and-gun system.
