Will Stein’s first Kentucky staff is quickly taking shape, and one of the key additions is now officially on board. Joe Price III, fresh off wrapping up his six-year run at UTSA, has joined the Wildcats as their new wide receivers coach. His move comes just days after the Roadrunners dominated FIU in the First Responder Bowl, closing out a successful chapter in San Antonio.
Price made his departure official on Sunday, taking to social media to thank UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor, the athletic department, and the players he’s coached over the years. It was a heartfelt goodbye to a program he helped build, but also a clear signal that he’s ready for the next step in his coaching journey.
UTSA athletic director Lisa Campos responded with gratitude, saying, “Thank you for all you did for the program. We are going to miss you.”
Now, Price shifts his focus to Lexington, where he’ll be tasked with helping develop a young but promising wide receiver group at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility. With the transfer portal set to open Friday, there’s no time to ease into the role. Kentucky is expected to be active, especially in the hunt for a starting-caliber wideout, and Price will be a key figure in that effort.
His background makes him a strong fit for what Kentucky needs right now. A former high school coach with deep recruiting ties in Houston, Price brings valuable connections in one of the most talent-rich areas in the country. He also shares a history with Stein from their time together at UTSA, which should make for a smooth transition as the new staff works to build chemistry and hit the ground running.
Price’s hiring is another sign that Stein is assembling a staff with an eye toward both development and recruiting reach. With Texas being a priority pipeline, Price’s presence could pay dividends quickly - both in the portal and on the trail.
Kentucky’s wide receiver room may be young, but there’s talent waiting to be unlocked. Price will now get his shot to shape that group and help elevate the Wildcats’ passing attack in 2026 and beyond.
