Kentucky's football program is making waves on the recruiting front, with Coach Will Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan zeroing in on promising high school quarterbacks. Among the standout prospects is Brady Quinn, a sophomore sensation from Chaminade-Madonna High School in Florida.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds, Quinn has already attracted offers from top programs like Florida, Florida State, and Ole Miss, to name a few. He's a top 150 player nationally, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Interestingly, Quinn carries the name of former Notre Dame star quarterback Brady Quinn. His father, Steve Quinn, a die-hard Notre Dame fan, shared how the name came about.
“I’m just a huge Notre Dame fan,” Steve explained. “I wanted my first son to be named after Brady Quinn, but my wife wasn’t on board.
I got my way the second time.”
The connection between the two Bradys goes beyond just a name. The former Notre Dame quarterback reached out to young Brady, even retweeting some of his posts, which Steve described as a generous gesture.
Steve Quinn, deeply embedded in football as the Managing Partner of Football University, has been a fixture in youth football for over 20 years. His involvement in developing leagues and scouting talent has given him a keen eye for recognizing potential.
Brady’s journey began in Florida, but a move to New Jersey introduced him to flag football due to age restrictions on tackle football. Even then, his natural talent was evident.
“I remember him throwing a perfect pass at a young age,” Steve recalled. “He’s always been a quarterback with a sharp mind and a powerful arm.”
Joe Sloan, who was recruiting Brady at LSU before transitioning to Kentucky, has maintained a strong connection with the Quinn family. After joining Kentucky, Sloan quickly renewed his interest in Brady, resulting in an offer from the Wildcats.
Brady transferred to Chaminade-Madonna Prep for his junior year to compete against top-tier athletes. His stats are impressive: as a freshman, he threw for 2,549 yards and 33 touchdowns, and as a sophomore, he improved to 2,960 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also showcased his versatility with 275 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The decision to transfer was influenced by family circumstances, as Brady’s older brother battled leukemia. “His brother’s health was a priority, but now there’s hope,” Steve said, reflecting on the challenging period.
Brady’s recruitment journey began in eighth grade and shows no signs of slowing. His aspirations are clear: he dreams of playing in the NFL.
Steve Quinn takes pride in his son’s maturity and work ethic. “He’s always pushing himself, whether it’s practicing late at night or understanding game film at a young age,” Steve noted.
“Both my boys have grown up around football, and it’s shaped who they are.”
With a bright future ahead, Brady Quinn is poised to make a significant impact on the field, and Kentucky is keen to be part of his journey.
