Following the Ole Miss game on Sunday, it was clear that Asia Boone and Amelia Hassett played pivotal roles in Kentucky's victory. Rebels head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin acknowledged that while Clara Strack's 28 points were significant, it was Boone and Hassett's three-point shooting that truly made the difference. Ole Miss struggled to contain the perimeter, allowing Kentucky to capitalize.
In their 74-57 win, Boone and Hassett combined for all seven of Kentucky's three-pointers. Boone contributed 15 points, shooting 4-8 from beyond the arc, while Hassett added three more threes on 3-6 shooting.
Kenny Brooks, reflecting on the game, praised Boone and Hassett's impact not just against Ole Miss, but in recent games as well. He emphasized the team's adaptability and willingness to adjust, which has been key to their success.
“Both of them do a tremendous job of stretching the floor,” Brooks noted. “We become a lot different.
Shout out to everyone for their adjustments and the changes in the starting lineup. Asia Boone, for instance, prefers coming off the bench, but her insertion into the starting lineup has given us strong starts in the last two games.”
Brooks continued, “When Boone and Hassett are hitting their shots, we’re tough to guard. It opens up opportunities for Clara Strack and clears lanes for Tonie Morgan. It makes us a well-rounded team.”
With Teonni Key back in action, Kentucky has become a more balanced team. However, their peak performance comes when Boone and Hassett are connecting from deep, making them a formidable opponent.
