Late in the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Jacob Knuth punched in the final touchdown to cap a scoring burst that had Bill Snyder Family Stadium buzzing. Once the Wildcats had pushed the lead to 71-3, Willie was sent out for his usual post-score punishment: one push-up for every point Kansas State had put on the board.
By that point, the assignment had become a grind. The video boards showed Willie’s head bobbing while his arms barely budged. More than once, he dropped a knee as he kept trying to tap his nose to the ground, with his backside hanging a little high for clean form.
When he finally finished, Willie bounced back in the best possible way. He fired up the crowd, led the “K-S-U” chant and then caught everyone off guard by dropping into the splits, setting off another wave of cheers as Kansas State finished off the blowout.

The math behind Willie’s misery was brutal: 394 push-ups, thanks to Kansas State’s offensive eruption. That kind of scoring outburst is rare for the Wildcats, too. The source notes the only other times K-State reached the 70-point mark were in 1998 and 2000.
So Willie Wildcat can at least breathe easy for now. If Kansas State keeps piling up points like this, though, he’s going to be in the best shape of his life by season’s end.
