Tyreek Hill’s comeback work is getting attention for more than just the rehab itself. When the former Kansas City Chiefs wideout posted a workout video on Instagram, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce jumped into the comments, and that was all it took to kick up another wave of reunion chatter.
Hill is trying to return from a dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments, including a torn ACL, after being released by the Miami Dolphins in February. In the video, the 32-year-old looked active in drills and also showed part of his rehab in a pool.
Mahomes kept his message simple: “Keep going brotha! 💪🏽🔥,”
Kelce went with four cheetah emojis and three fire emojis, a nod to Hill’s well-known “Cheetah” nickname.
That was enough for fans to start connecting dots again.
“Chiefs comeback,” one fan wrote.
“Y’all should bring him back on a vet minimum,” another added.
“You guys are so getting back together,” one response read.
For now, there’s no sign the Chiefs are lining up a move. Mahomes and Kelce were backing a former teammate working his way through a major injury, and the comments shouldn’t be treated like a recruitment pitch. But it’s easy to see why the idea keeps popping up.
Hill spent his first six NFL seasons in Kansas City after the Chiefs took him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. His speed helped reshape the offense, especially once Mahomes took over as starting quarterback in 2018.
During his time with the Chiefs, Hill put up four 1,000-yard receiving seasons and made six Pro Bowls. He was also part of four straight AFC championship teams and the Super Bowl 54 title run with Mahomes and Kelce.
Kansas City traded Hill to Miami in March 2022 after the sides couldn’t work out a contract extension. The Chiefs got five draft picks back, and Hill landed a huge extension with the Dolphins.
A return would be one of the offseason’s loudest stories, but there are real hurdles before anything like that becomes possible. Hill’s health is the biggest one. He played only four games last season before the injury ended his year, finishing with 29 catches for 265 yards and one touchdown.
The Chiefs would also have to decide whether Hill can still separate and threaten defenses after that kind of knee damage. A workout clip can show progress, but it can’t answer the questions that come with NFL speed, contact and sharp cuts.
There’s also the matter of roster fit. Kansas City heads into camp with a crowded receiver room, so Hill may not be viewed as a must-add unless injuries or poor performances change that picture. If a reunion ever did happen, the money would likely have to make sense too, with a short-term, incentive-heavy deal a possible path.
Even so, the connection is obvious. Mahomes, Kelce and Hill were one of the most dangerous trios the league has seen. Their latest social media exchange doesn’t mean they’ll suit up together again, but it was enough to get Chiefs fans dreaming.
