Kansas State's Matthew Driscoll Stuns Fans With Bold 2025-26 Season Declaration

Kansas State's Matthew Driscoll boldly promises a turnaround for the Wildcats in the 2025-26 season after overcoming a challenging year filled with setbacks.

Kansas State's season came to a close against BYU, marking the end of a challenging journey for the Wildcats. Despite a competitive matchup, the conclusion was inevitable, but Coach Matthew Driscoll had nothing but praise for his team's perseverance throughout the season.

Driscoll highlighted the Wildcats' resilience, not just in the face of the Cougars but throughout a season filled with hurdles. "I'm really proud of the fact that we didn’t quit," Driscoll shared in his postgame remarks.

"We’ve never quit during this whole tumultuous situation. We were probably the most resilient team in the Big 12, bar none.

We’ve been through everything you could possibly think of: injury, illness, and attrition, obviously being with coach [Tang]. That says a lot about who they are."

The coach's admiration extended to his players' commitment, particularly spotlighting PJ Haggerty, the nation's third-leading scorer. "The guy to my left could’ve just opted out and quit," Driscoll noted.

"He could’ve just said, 'I’m not playing anymore,' because he was already one of the best scorers in the country. But he told me personally, 'I’m playing because I love to hoop.

I’m hooping.' There’s a lot to be said about this team and about what they did, and I’m super proud to be the person who’s temporarily in charge of them."

This season was a rollercoaster, with high hopes for a strong Tournament run turning into one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory. The Wildcats struggled in conference play, securing just three wins in the Big 12. Jerome Tang, facing a tough 1-11 start in conference play, didn't hold back his frustration, publicly expressing his disappointment with the team’s performance.

With the season behind them, Kansas State faces a pivotal moment. The Wildcats need to reflect on what went wrong to avoid similar pitfalls in the future.

The search for a new leader to guide the team towards potential postseason success is already underway. As for the players, the likelihood of returning after such a difficult campaign remains uncertain.
