Kansas State Stuns Fans with Dawayne Jones Commitment Connection

Kansas State lands a major defensive talent for the 2027 class as Dawayne Jones commits, bolstering the Wildcats with his athleticism and strong family ties.

Kansas State football is keeping it all in the family with its latest commitment. Dawayne Jones, brother of former Wildcat linebacker Wayne Jones, has pledged to join the Wildcats, becoming the second commitment for K-State's 2027 class. Head coach Collin Klein and his team have made Jones a priority, and their efforts have paid off.

Jones, ranked as the No. 7 player in Oklahoma, announced his commitment on Sunday. The Wildcats' new staff wasted no time, extending an offer in January and securing one of the first official visits for the summer. With a strong focus on K-State, Jones didn't entertain public visits elsewhere, thanks in large part to the recruiting efforts of Jordan Peterson, Jordan Dove, and Brian Lepak.

For Jones, Kansas State already felt like home. "K-State has always felt like family since my brother played there," Jones shared.

"I've seen how they treat their players, and I really feel the love from the staff. They're building something special, and that excites me."

Jones brings versatility to the field, capable of playing both on the edge and inside. His agility and speed make him a formidable presence in the middle, challenging opposing linemen, especially in the passing game. On the edge, his upper body strength helps him battle through offensive tackles, showcasing a range of pass rush moves and flexibility.

Despite offers from powerhouse programs like Texas A&M, LSU, and Auburn, Jones' decision to commit to K-State is a significant win for the Wildcats. The familiarity and connection with the program undoubtedly played a role, and the staff's proactive approach in securing his commitment early in the cycle is commendable.

Jones joins Nazir Pitchford as the second commit for the 2027 class, both on the defensive side. The Wildcats are aiming to build a "new old school" approach, and Jones seems to fit that mold perfectly.

"I think I fit well because I play fast and physical. The best part of my game is my effort and versatility - I'll do whatever helps the team win."

With this commitment, Kansas State is laying the groundwork for what could be a strong recruiting class under Klein's leadership. The Wildcats are setting the stage for a promising future, and Jones is poised to be a key part of it.
