Devin Vass is on the move.
The 6-foot-6 sophomore offensive lineman announced Friday that he’s entering the transfer portal, signaling the end of his time at Kansas State. It’s a notable development for a Wildcats program that saw plenty of shifting along the offensive front in 2025 - and Vass was right in the thick of it as the season wore on.
While he wasn’t a full-time starter, Vass did see a few starts and logged meaningful snaps, showcasing the kind of size and potential that made him a sought-after recruit coming out of high school. Back then, he chose Kansas State over offers from Kansas, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Pitt - a solid list for a three-star prospect. Now, with some college experience under his belt and eligibility remaining, he’ll be a name to watch in what’s shaping up to be a busy portal cycle.
The timing of Vass’s decision aligns with the NCAA’s updated transfer portal window for FBS football. Under the new rules, players can officially enter the portal between January 2 and January 14. Coaches aren’t allowed to initiate official contact with players until 12:01 a.m. on January 2 - even if a player, like Vass, announces their intent to transfer beforehand.
Once the window closes on January 14, no new entries are allowed unless the player is a graduate student. Grad transfers operate under a different set of rules and can enter the portal at any time after completing their degree.
Vass’s decision adds another layer to the evolving landscape of college football’s offseason. For teams looking to shore up their offensive line with a player who brings both size and upside, he could be a compelling option. And for Vass, this is a chance to reset, find the right fit, and take the next step in his development - wherever that may be.
