Kansas State’s win over Washington State last Saturday gave the Wildcats more than a comfortable 34-7 victory. It also gave them another chance to impress one of the top quarterback prospects in the country.
Titus Huard, a four-star quarterback from Colorado, was in Manhattan for the game and came away sounding eager to come back. After the visit, he posted: "Had a great time at Kansas State over the weekend, thankful for the whole experience. Will be back soon!!"
Huard, who plays at Valor Christian in Littleton, Colo., watched Kansas State’s defense shut out the Cougars in the touchdown column. The Wildcats’ only score allowed came on an interception return.
The visit fits into an early recruiting push from coach Collin Klein, who has been active on the trail in his first season. Kansas State has hosted several top players from around the country, and Huard was one of the headliners.
There’s also a clear reason the Wildcats are paying close attention to quarterbacks. Senior Avery Johnson is in the middle of his third season as the full-time starter. He could petition for a fifth year under new NCAA rules, but he could also enter the NFL picture if his season keeps trending the right way.
Even if Johnson does return, Huard would still be looking at a path similar to the one Johnson followed. Johnson spent most of his freshman year behind Will Howard, then took over late after Howard transferred to Ohio State and played in the bowl game.
Huard already holds offers from Arkansas, Arizona State, Kansas and Colorado. The son of former NFL player Brock Huard has put up 784 passing yards and seven touchdowns this season, after throwing for 1,946 yards and 16 touchdowns last year.
At 6-foot-5 and 206 pounds, Huard has the frame scouts want, and Kansas State now has his attention.
