Kansas State Loses Two Key Starters to Transfer Portal Shakeup

Kansas State faces another blow as key contributors depart ahead of a pivotal offseason for the Wildcats.

Kansas State Hit Again by Transfer Portal as Osunsanmi, Vass Depart

The transfer portal continues to chip away at Kansas State’s roster, with two more key pieces from the 2025 squad heading out the door. Edge rusher Tobi Osunsanmi and offensive lineman Devin Vass are the latest Wildcats to enter the portal, adding to what’s become a growing list of offseason exits in Manhattan.

Osunsanmi made his announcement on X, confirming his plans to explore new opportunities. Shortly after, reports surfaced that Vass would be joining him, with both departures coming just as the Collin Klein era begins to take shape.

Let’s start with Osunsanmi. Even though he missed the final six games of the season due to injury, his impact early on was undeniable.

He still finished tied for second on the team in sacks with four - just a half sack behind team leader Cody Stufflebean, who played in twice as many games. That kind of production in limited action speaks volumes about Osunsanmi’s explosiveness off the edge and his ability to disrupt plays behind the line of scrimmage.

Then there’s Vass, who quietly became a stabilizing force on the offensive line. He stepped in as the starting right guard over the final seven games and steadily improved each week.

According to Pro Football Focus, his growth as a pass-blocker stood out, which is no small feat in a conference known for its defensive fronts. With his departure, K-State is now left with just one returning lineman who saw consistent starting reps - a major concern for a unit that thrives on chemistry and continuity.

These aren’t just depth losses - these are starters, contributors, and players who had the potential to be foundational pieces moving forward. And they’re not alone. The Wildcats have already seen standout receiver Jayce Brown enter the portal, along with Ryan Davis, Donovan McIntosh, and Qua Moss.

It’s a tough stretch for a program that’s trying to build momentum under new leadership. And while the portal giveth and taketh, right now, it’s mostly taking from Kansas State.

The biggest domino still yet to fall? Quarterback Avery Johnson. As of now, no decision has been made public, and all eyes are on whether the young signal-caller will stay in Manhattan or test the waters elsewhere.

The NCAA transfer portal officially opens on January 2 and runs through January 16. Between now and then, expect more movement - and potentially more tough decisions - for the Wildcats.
