The departure of Kansas State coach Jerome Tang is still fresh, but his influence lingers on the team. Interim coach Matthew Driscoll highlighted Tang's lasting impact, emphasizing how players continue to thrive even in his absence.
Reflecting on a recent game against Colorado, Driscoll shared, "When they went up by 22 points, the staff suggested a timeout. I chose to let the players respond on their own.
Despite trailing, we closed the gap to 73-70 with two minutes left. The resilience these guys have shown, starting with Houston, is impressive.
Coach Tang's genuine approach during the transition was pivotal, and the team's performances against Baylor, Texas Tech, and now Colorado reflect that."
Driscoll also recounted a moment with senior guard CJ Jones, where he doubted a comeback was possible after Colorado surged ahead in the second half. Yet, he praised the team's determination despite the loss.
"I'm encouraged," Driscoll noted. "We need to keep building each other up. Our vision is clear, and with TCU up next, we're focused on that challenge."
However, Driscoll wasn't entirely satisfied with the outcome, pointing out areas for improvement. "I'm not into moral victories or learning from losing.
We need to keep filling the cup. In those final minutes, we can't afford to have three shots blocked.
We must improve at drawing fouls, getting to the line, and stopping the clock. We talk about it, but now it's time to execute."
