JoJo Scott is one of the young names worth watching in Kansas State’s secondary, and the redshirt freshman from Lakeland, Florida is already in the mix for a bigger role.
Scott, a 6-1, 182-pound defensive back who is majoring in kinesiology, appeared in 2025 against Oklahoma State, Utah and Colorado on punt return duty, which preserved his redshirt. He was born June 1, 2007, and comes into this season with plenty of attention after a productive prep career at Victory Christian Academy under head coach Kendrick Stewart.
At Victory Christian, Scott stacked up 57 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries across the final three years of his high school career. He picked off three passes in each of his last two seasons, and over his final two years he also added 300 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 20 catches. He wasn’t just a football player, either - he also competed in basketball and track and field.
247Sports ranked Scott as the 78th-best cornerback in the Class of 2025, and his offer sheet reflected that kind of national attention. He committed to K-State over offers from Akron, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Jackson State, Kansas, Liberty, Louisville, Memphis, NC State, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota State, Oregon State, South Florida, Temple, UAB, UConn, USF, West Virginia, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, while also drawing recruiting interest from Maryland, Miami and Tennessee.
His lead recruiter was former position coach Van Malone, who said last year, “The younger guys have come in and worked hard and have had their noses in the books. The flashiest one I’ve seen is JoJo Scott, who has done some really good things, but he’s still a freshman with a long way to go.”
Scott is still listed as a cornerback on the roster, but head coach Collin Klein said Tuesday that he is competing at the “jack” safety/nickelback spot and splitting snaps with newcomer Micheal Graham Jr. Klein said, “MJ (Micheal Graham Jr.) and JoJo, the competition between both of them is ongoing, but both of them have taken really, really good steps since the spring.
Coverability, communication, is really, really improved. So, I’m excited to see how that goes, but we have two guys that you feel really, really good about there.”
K-State has also recently shifted to a new classification system that labels players by year of eligibility, which is why the school’s SID lists Scott as a true sophomore even though he barely played in 2025.

Kansas State has quietly added another name to its tight end room in Owen Harrington, a true sophomore from California who arrives after a season at Foothill College. Harrington posted 14 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown there last year, giving the Wildcats a young option with some junior college production already on his rsum.
