Garrick Dixon arrives at Kansas State as a young cornerback with plenty of upside and a chance to carve out a role early on special teams. The St. Louis native, born Sept. 6, 2007, plans to major in business administration, and the expectation is that he redshirts while still getting on the field and showing up on the depth chart as a reserve.
Special teams coordinator Stanton Weber made it sound in May like Dixon won’t be waiting long to contribute. “Garrick Dixon had a great winter, and he’s really shown that he’s capable.”
Dixon comes to Manhattan after a prep career at Fort Zumwalt High School West, where he played under head coach Ben Pike. Rivals ranked him as the 75th-best cornerback in the Class of 2026 and the 16th-best overall player in Missouri. He also ran a hand-timed 4.55 in the 40-yard dash.
His resume at Fort Zumwalt West included Class 5 All-District 4 honors from the Missouri Football Coaches Association as both a junior and a senior. As a senior, he also earned second team all-state recognition from the organization.
Kansas State won out after Dixon impressed at camp and stacked up scholarship offers from Air Force, Army, Cincinnati, Cornell, Dartmouth, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Lindenwood, Miami (Ohio), Navy, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, UT Martin, Western Illinois and Western Michigan.
At camp in Manhattan, Dixon said his versatility was a big part of his comfort level with the Wildcats: “I worked at corner and halfway through switched to safety,” Dixon said on his camp in Manhattan. “I see myself anywhere the coaches need me and I feel comfortable playing both.
