Kansas State Battles Texas Tech in a High-Stakes Showdown This Saturday

Kansas State gears up to face formidable No. 13 Texas Tech, aiming to break a long-standing losing streak under new leadership.

Kansas State is gearing up for its third consecutive Saturday road game in Texas, taking on No. 13 Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena.

With tip-off set for 1:35 p.m. CT, the game will be broadcast nationally on FOX, featuring commentary from Jason Benetti and LaPhonso Ellis.

The Wildcats have struggled in Lubbock, dropping 10 straight to the Red Raiders, with their last victory dating back to 2014. This season, K-State is winless against Top 25 teams.

The Wildcats recently made headlines with a coaching change, parting ways with Jerome Tang after four seasons. Matthew Driscoll steps in as interim head coach, bringing a wealth of experience, including 275 career wins over 20 seasons.

Driscoll made an immediate impact, snapping a six-game losing streak with a 90-74 victory over Baylor. This win marked him as only the second interim coach in K-State history to win his debut, a feat not achieved since 2006.

Driscoll and Texas Tech's head coach, Grant McCasland, share roots in the Drew coaching tree. Driscoll was part of Scott Drew's original Baylor staff, while McCasland joined later.

Despite their shared history, this will be their first meeting as head coaches. Driscoll's previous encounter with Texas Tech ended in a loss when he was at North Florida.

Texas Tech, despite losing star player JT Toppin to injury, remains one of the nation's hottest teams, boasting eight wins in their last 11 games. Sophomore Christian Anderson leads the charge, averaging 19 points per game and topping the Big 12 with 7.64 assists per game.

The series between the two teams is deadlocked at 26 wins each, though Texas Tech has claimed the last three matchups.
