Kansas State's five-star tight end, Linkon Cure, was the talk of the town heading into 2025. As the program's first five-star recruit, expectations were sky-high for Cure to elevate the Wildcats' offense in the Big 12 and nationally.
However, Cure's freshman season didn't unfold as many anticipated. He appeared in just nine games, snagging six receptions for 37 yards. Instead of being the offensive powerhouse many expected, he was more of a safety valve.
But Kansas State coach Collin Klein hasn’t lost sight of Cure’s potential. Klein, like former coach Chris Klieman, is impressed by Cure's versatility at tight end.
"He offers incredible position versatility," Klein shared during a Wednesday press conference. "He’s a hard worker, tackling every challenge head-on. We’re planning to use him primarily at tight end, but his ability to line up all over the field is a huge asset."
Cure is expected to share the field with Garrett Oakley, who had a standout season as the leading tight end. Oakley's emergence likely contributed to Cure's limited role last year.
The plan moving forward is for both players to split reps and production. Cure's development is already evident in his physical progress.
"We’ll continue using two-tight end sets, whether in 12 or 11 personnel, which gives us great flexibility," Klein explained. "I’m thrilled with his progress in the program.
He’s achieved the highest muscle mass gain and fat loss, which is impressive for someone already at an elite level. It’s a testament to his dedication."
