Kansas State’s 2028 recruiting board keeps getting busier, and Collin Klein is clearly wasting no time making his mark.
The Wildcats have now extended an offer to Ak Mekaowulu, a linebacker from McKinney Boyd High School in Texas. Mekaowulu announced the scholarship himself and is part of the 2028 class, giving Kansas State another early swing at one of the better defensive prospects in Texas.
That offer fits into a much larger run of early targets for the Wildcats, who have been spreading out across several states and several classes. Kansas State has also offered Israel Johnigan, a tight end from Center High School in the Kansas City area. Johnigan is a four-star prospect according to 247 Sports and one of the top players in the nation in the 2028 class.
The Wildcats have also gone after Ashton Tayler, a two-way athlete at Trinity High School in Louisville, and Jayden Stephens, an athlete from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in Iowa who is rated a three-star recruit by 247 Sports. Another 2028 defender on the board is Jordan Hall, a defensive back from Aledo High School in Texas.
Kansas State has been active up front as well. Troy Falke, an offensive tackle from Prosper Rock Hill High School, already holds offers from Baylor, Syracuse and TCU.
Benaiah Rizer, another offensive tackle, plays at Topeka Seaman High School and is part of Klein’s effort to pull in more in-state talent. James Bennett, also an offensive tackle, is a massive 6-foot-7, 300-pound prospect in the 2028 class and already has offers from Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas Tech.
The Wildcats are also getting involved early with players farther down the road. Amari Roberts, a quarterback/wide receiver from Mary Country Day Institute in the St.
Louis area, is in the 2030 class. Noah Gigger, a wide receiver from CarrollWood Day School in Tampa, is also a 2030 prospect and already has offers from Maryland, North Carolina and Syracuse.
The source notes that Kansas State is likely getting in on the ground floor with Gigger, who has been on varsity since he was 14.
On the defensive side, Kansas State has offered Aisaiah Bollen, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback from Northeast Lincoln High School in Nebraska, and Elijah Smith, a defensive back from Allen High School in Texas who already has offers from Baylor, Oklahoma State and Louisville. There’s also Cortez Jones, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker from Westlake High School in Georgia who has offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Missouri and Kansas.
The Wildcats’ push hasn’t stopped at high school talent, either. Jekai Lee, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound defensive end from Butler Community College, is on the board and also has offers from Florida International, Georgia State, Southern Mississippi and UTSA.
Kansas State has also made multiple moves at tight end. Brady Reeves, a three-star prospect from Hill-Murray High School in Minnesota, has offers from Vanderbilt, Iowa State and Miami (OH), and 247Sports has him ranked just outside the top 20 at his position.
Last season, he caught 25 passes for 327 yards and nine touchdowns. Sloan Blackwell, a tight end at Waco Midway High School, picked up his offer on Tuesday night and also has offers from Arizona, Syracuse and Arizona State.
He posted 18 receptions for 254 yards and two touchdowns last season, per MaxPreps.
The list continues with Jerry Richmond, an offensive lineman from East St. Louis High School, who has also been offered by Florida Atlantic, North Carolina and South Dakota.
Kansas State also offered offensive tackle Asher Megonnell from Ankeny Centennial High School in Iowa on Friday. Megonnell also has an offer from Big 12 rival Iowa State and is currently unranked.
Other names on the Wildcats’ board include Jamison Mobley, an offensive/defensive lineman from Jenks High School in Oklahoma with five Division I offers despite being in the 2029 class, and Drew Langford, a linebacker from Legacy Hills High School in Texas who is in the 2028 class and already has offers from Texas-San Antonio and Texas State. The Wildcats’ recruiting reach also includes Julian Dwyer, a defensive end from Cincinnati Moeller High School who is rated the 16th-best player in Ohio by 247 Sports and has offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Indiana.
One more name tied to the board is Benaiah? Actually the source also lists Denkins, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound standout from Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Georgia. He is rated a four-star recruit by 247 Sports, adding another highly regarded name to the mix as Kansas State keeps expanding its early offer sheet.

Kansas State Now Faces A Big 12 Future Without Brett Yormark
Brett Yormarks decision to step away after helping steer the Big 12 through a dramatic stretch leaves Kansas State looking at a conference future shaped by someone elses hand. Since taking over in August 2022, Yormark has been a central figure in the leagues rapid changes, from finalizing major media rights deals to helping expand the conference to 16 teams, while also locking in tournament extensions and sponsorships that gave the Big 12 more stability and reach.
For Kansas State, the timing matters as much as the news itself. Yormark will remain in place through January 2027, which means the Wildcats will still see him around as the league keeps moving through this transformed era, but the bigger question is what comes next once that chapter closes. Big 12 leadership praised his work and leadership during a period of major growth, and now the conference has to figure out how to carry that momentum forward without the commissioner who helped define it. Kansas State Heads To Colorado With A Quarterback Problem Fans Feared
Kansas State heads into its October 31 trip to Colorado with the kind of quarterback uncertainty no team wants this late in the season. Injuries have clouded the position for the Wildcats, leaving the offense in a fragile spot at a time when every possession matters, especially with another Big 12 test looming on the road.
Colorado has dealt with quarterback changes of its own and still brings plenty of questions into the matchup, even if the Buffaloes showed some fight in a close loss to Utah. Both teams have had issues with turnovers and inconsistency on offense, which only adds to the sense that this one could hinge on which side handles the chaos better. [Read more 🡒]
Kansas State Is Catching Colorado At A Brutal Time For Deion
Colorado is heading into this matchup with Kansas State in a rough place, and the timing only adds to the pressure on Deion Sanders. The Buffaloes have dropped five straight and sit at 2-5 overall, including 0-4 in Big 12 play, while backup quarterback Isaac Wilson is expected to start again because of a medical emergency involving Julian Lewis.
Sanders has already acknowledged how difficult the skid has been and said the program needs to get better, but the larger question hanging over Boulder is where things go from here. A visit from Kansas State now comes with the stakes feeling a little sharper, because every loss is starting to chip away at the confidence around a team that has not found its footing in league play.
