Chicago Bears Eyeing Star Center Sam Hecht After Analyst's Bold Advice

Chicago Bears urged to consider standout center Sam Hecht, following praise from NFL analyst Kay Adams, amid team's evolving roster needs.

As former Kansas State center Sam Hecht gears up for the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears are emerging as a prime destination for the talented lineman. This playoff-contending team is leading the charge to bring Hecht on board, especially after getting a nod of approval from sports analyst Kay Adams. Hecht himself is eager at the prospect of teaming up with the Bears' dynamic quarterback, Caleb Williams.

Reflecting on his interactions with the Bears, Hecht shared, "Their O-line coaches were the ones putting us through the O-line drills. It was great to meet them, and I really appreciated the relationship.

Protecting a quarterback of that caliber is super exciting. The staff was amazing, I feel like we grew a good relationship in the short time we had with each other."

During his four years at Kansas State, Hecht made quite the impression, earning All-Big 12 honors in his final two seasons. Despite some challenges faced by the line, he was recognized as an honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2025. Initially pegged as a third or fourth-round pick, his standout performance at the Senior Bowl has elevated his draft stock, with some experts now predicting he could be snagged as early as the second round.

While Hecht may not have the prototypical size, his technique is top-notch. He’s known for his well-placed inside hands that maximize leverage and core strength.

His athleticism is particularly notable when he's in open space, sticking to blocks effectively. However, his shorter length can occasionally be a disadvantage in both run and pass scenarios.

Adding more muscle could be key, but his consistency and game tape suggest he's destined to be a starter.

For the Bears, Hecht could be the perfect fit to fill the gap left by the retiring Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman. Hecht's proven track record of protecting quarterbacks, like his work with Avery Johnson last season, bodes well for his potential partnership with Williams. Williams was a standout last season, leading the Bears to new heights and giving the franchise confidence in building a team poised for sustained success.
