As the Bill Self era at Kansas continues, the legendary coach isn't showing signs of slowing down. In a candid chat with CBS Sports' Matt Norlander, Self made it clear that as long as he's feeling good, he plans to keep leading the Jayhawks.
The conversation kicked off with a nod to the "Made For March" documentary, spotlighting Kansas and Michigan's 2025-26 seasons. Norlander then shifted gears, asking Self about his future at KU, wondering if headlines about his departure might surface soon.
Self's response was straightforward and optimistic: "I think so, yeah. I think so," he said, emphasizing his love for the game and his players.
While health issues have been a hurdle, they haven't dimmed his passion or ability to coach.
This season, Self faced a health scare, missing a game after being hospitalized in January. Diagnosed with dehydration and AFib, he sat out the Colorado game but was back for the clash against K-State.
Last summer, Self had a similar episode, leading to a hospital visit and two stents being placed. This followed a similar procedure in March 2023, when chest tightness sidelined him during the Big 12 Tournament.
Self also underwent an aortic valve replacement in 2022, post-championship.
Despite these challenges, Self reassured Norlander of his well-being. "I think I'm feeling the way that you're supposed to feel," he shared, reflecting on how health improvements have boosted his energy and outlook. The procedures have been a game-changer, helping him regain the vigor that once seemed elusive.
As KU gears up for the Big 12 Tournament, the Jayhawks are set to face the winner of TCU and the Oklahoma State-Colorado matchup. The action tips off Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.
CT, broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2. With Self at the helm, Kansas fans have every reason to be excited about the postseason.
