Kansas Lands In A November Showcase That Just Got More Intense

Discover the top five in-season college basketball tournaments for 2026-27 as they undergo significant format changes to enhance fan experience and competitive play.

The November multi-team event calendar in men’s college basketball keeps shifting, and the best tournaments are changing with it. Players Era still sits at the top of the heap, but even that operation looks different in 2026. The old 18-team setup is out, replaced by a cleaner 16-team event and a separate eight-team Players Era tournament the week before.

That simplification matters. Both Players Era events now use normal bracket formats, which should make the whole thing easier to track and a lot more satisfying to follow.

Elsewhere, though, the landscape is less tidy. The Battle 4 Atlantis has gone in the opposite direction, ditching its traditional bracket for a setup that splits the field into two four-team pools.

One side, the “Signature Series,” features Virginia, Marquette, Texas A&M and Xavier in four predetermined games. The other side, the “Championship Bracket,” is a true four-team event with Memphis or Penn State set to face Wake Forest or Mississippi State.

No team in either group gets a third game. That’s enough to leave it off this list.

With that in mind, here are the five best bracket-style events on the 2026-27 schedule.

1. Players Era 16

Dates: Nov. 24-28
Location: Las Vegas

This is the crown jewel. The Players Era 16 brings together 14 high-major teams and two Pac-12 powers, Gonzaga and San Diego State. Nine of the top 20 teams in the preseason AP Top 25 are in the field, and the bracket is loaded with matchups that could shape resumes right away.

Possible second-round games like Miami vs. Michigan, Alabama vs.

Gonzaga, Tennessee vs. Iowa State and St.

John’s vs. either Texas Tech or Louisville jump off the page. Every team is guaranteed three games, and nearly every one of those games should matter.

Outside of Kansas State, all 16 teams started the season inside KenPom’s top 100. The winners of the two eight-team brackets will then meet in a fourth game for the championship.

2. Players Era 8

Dates: Nov. 17-19
Location: Las Vegas

The smaller Players Era event is no throwaway. It’s headlined by preseason No.

1 Florida and also includes Houston and Kansas, two Big 12 heavyweights. The opening round sets up Houston vs.

Rutgers, Florida vs. Notre Dame, Kansas vs.

UNLV and West Virginia vs. Auburn.

Some of those first-round games could get lopsided, but the bracket still has real juice. Houston vs.

Florida in the semifinals would be a heavyweight clash, and Kansas vs. Auburn is another potential knockout.

A Florida-Kansas title game would be the marquee outcome, though Houston could also end up in the championship if the Gators stumble.

3. Maui Invitational

Dates: Nov. 23-25
Location: Lahaina, Hawaii

Maui doesn’t carry quite the same shine it once did, largely because Players Era has pulled so many of the top teams away. Still, this year’s field is a step up from last season’s version, when only two of the eight teams made the NCAA Tournament and both barely got in.

Arizona and a strong BYU team give this bracket real appeal, and there are interesting games all over the draw. Ole Miss vs.

Clemson, Washington vs. BYU, VCU vs.

Providence and Colorado State vs. Arizona are the first-round matchups.

VCU vs. Providence stands out most, because it has the kind of at-large implications that can linger well beyond November.

4. Rady Children’s Invitational

Dates: Nov. 26-27
Location: San Diego

This is a small field, but it has enough quality to matter. Texas and UCLA give the event a potential title-game centerpiece, and both teams entered the season in the preseason Top 25 with plenty of talent around them.

Texas has added five-star freshmen Marcus Spears Jr. and Austin Goosby, along with transfers David Punch from TCU and Isaiah Johnson from Colorado, giving Sean Miller’s second season a major boost. UCLA, meanwhile, already showed its chops by beating Arizona on opening night. Mick Cronin’s group added Texas Tech transfer Jaylen Petty and European import Nikola Kusturica to a strong returning core, and that gives the Bruins the kind of roster that can factor into the Big Ten race.

5. Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship

Dates: Nov. 19-20
Location: Nassau, Bahamas

This event earns its spot because it is a real tournament, even if it’s a small one. At a time when plenty of MTEs are just a collection of scheduled games, Baha Mar still gives us a true bracket.

NC State opens with Murray State in a matchup that pits one of the most high-octane and well-funded mid-major programs against an ACC team with first-year coach Justin Gainey. The winner gets either Seton Hall or Wisconsin in the title game.

Seton Hall is trying to get back to the NCAA Tournament after missing out despite a 21-12 record last season, while Wisconsin is the biggest name in the field. The Badgers will still have work to do against Seton Hall and whoever comes next.

Bill Self Just Put Kansas Fans On Notice About Trey Kaufman-Renn

Bill Selfs roster reshuffle has already started to take shape, with Kansas welcoming back veteran pieces Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White while also adding Trey Kaufman-Renn through the transfer portal under the five-for-five rule and a temporary injunction. The move gives the Jayhawks another experienced frontcourt option, and Kaufman-Renn arrives with a long rsum from four seasons at Purdue, which makes him one of the more intriguing additions in the mix.

He has already flashed what he can bring, logging 23 minutes in a recent game and finishing with nine points and five rebounds. Self said Kaufman-Renn is expected to be a starter once he is healthy and fully comfortable in Kansas system, which puts the focus on how quickly he can settle in and what kind of role he ultimately carves out as the Jayhawks keep sorting through their new-look rotation. Kansas Faces A Bigger WR Question After TCU Loss

Kansas passing game came out of the TCU loss with a different look, and one of the clearest changes was the reduced role of Nik McMillan. Coming in as the teams leading receiver, McMillan had been a central part of the offense, but the ball was spread around more against the Horned Frogs as backup quarterback Cole Ballard worked through the game and other targets stepped up.

Cam Pickett and Nahzee Cox both made their presence felt, which helped explain the shift in distribution, but it also left Kansas with a broader question about how the receiver rotation will settle going forward. The return of injured starter Isaiah Marshall could give the Jayhawks more answers in the passing game, and his availability would add another layer to an offense still sorting out where the targets are going to land. Kansas Just Got A Rivalry Reminder Jayhawks Fans Will Love

Kansas opened the season with a comfortable win over Fordham, and the early mood around the program got a little brighter when Kansas State stumbled at home against South Dakota State. It is only one game apiece, but in a state where the basketball conversation never stays quiet for long, that kind of contrast is the sort of thing Jayhawks fans notice right away.

The bigger picture is still ahead, of course, with the Sunflower Showdown set to be played twice this season. The first meeting comes in Manhattan on Jan. 23, and the return trip to Lawrence follows on Feb. 27, giving both sides plenty of time to sort out their early-season form before the rivalry starts to matter in a hurry.
