Jeremy Case, the Kansas basketball assistant coach, is making waves in the coaching world as he interviews for the head coaching position at Arizona State. This development follows Arizona State's decision to part ways with Bobby Hurley after their exit from the Big 12 Tournament, signaling a new chapter for the Sun Devils.
Case's journey with Kansas has been noteworthy. Promoted to associate head coach just six months ago, he has been a crucial part of Bill Self's staff since 2016.
Before returning to Kansas as a video coordinator, Case had already accumulated seven years of coaching experience. His rise continued in 2021 when he stepped up as an assistant coach following a staff change.
While Case didn't assume head coaching duties during Bill Self's absences, Self has made it clear that Case is his right-hand man. For instance, when Self was unavailable for a game against Colorado, Jacque Vaughn took the reins due to his head coaching experience. Yet, Self emphasizes that Case is the next in line, underscoring his confidence in Case's abilities.
Self's faith in Case is evident. "We have a lot of confidence in him, and he's closer to being ready to be a head coach," Self shared. "I think he's a star in the profession."
Beyond his coaching acumen, Case shines as a recruiter. His efforts have been instrumental in bringing top-tier talent to Kansas, including securing five-star guard Taylen Kinney. As Case explores new opportunities, his track record suggests he’s ready to make a significant impact as a head coach.
