Kansas Jayhawks Linked to K-State Transfer With Colorado Roots

Kansas pursuit of former rival RB Dylan Edwards adds intrigue to a transfer saga already marked by twists, talent, and tough breaks.

Dylan Edwards Eyes Potential Transfer to Kansas - A Sunflower Showdown Twist in the Making

Dylan Edwards' college football journey has already taken a few turns, and it looks like another chapter could be unfolding just down the road. The former Kansas State running back is in the transfer portal and reportedly considering a move to Kansas - a switch that would send him from one side of the Sunflower Showdown to the other.

According to his agent, Edwards is currently setting up visits with potential programs, and the Jayhawks are firmly in the mix. If he ends up in Lawrence, it would be a headline-worthy move - not just because of the rivalry, but because of what Edwards still brings to the table.

At 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, Edwards is an electric athlete with proven playmaking ability. His college career began at Colorado before he transferred to Kansas State, where he spent the past two seasons. While his time in Manhattan was a bit of a roller coaster, there were flashes of what made him a four-star recruit out of Derby High School.

Last season, the Wildcats had plans to use Edwards as both a running back and a punt returner. But things got off to a rocky start.

In the season opener against Iowa State, he fumbled his first punt return and left the game with an injury that was never fully explained. That moment set the tone for a season that never quite gained traction.

He missed nearly a month before returning, and ultimately played just one full game as a junior. But in that game - a 34-20 win over UCF - Edwards reminded everyone why he was so highly recruited.

He rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown, showing off his burst, vision, and ability to change direction in space. Unfortunately, a setback the following week against Baylor sidelined him again, and he didn’t return to the field.

Eventually, he made the decision to preserve his redshirt and voluntarily stepped away from the team.

While Edwards was out, Joe Jackson stepped into the lead role and made the most of it. Jackson broke the school’s single-game rushing record with 293 yards against Utah and followed that up with a dominant performance against Colorado, racking up 142 yards and three touchdowns in the season finale. His emergence likely made it even tougher for Edwards to find a path forward in K-State’s crowded backfield.

Since entering the portal, Edwards has kept a low profile. There was some early buzz around Nebraska and West Virginia, but neither situation materialized. Now, with Kansas in the picture, the idea of a fresh start - and a familiar setting - could be appealing.

Over three seasons, Edwards has totaled 1,072 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, along with 58 receptions for 449 yards and six scores through the air. His most memorable performance came in the 2024 Rate Bowl, where he exploded for 223 total yards and three touchdowns - a glimpse of the all-purpose weapon he can be when healthy and fully integrated into an offense.

Edwards’ recruitment out of high school was anything but straightforward. He originally committed to Kansas State, then flipped to Notre Dame, then Colorado. Now, as he looks for his next home, the possibility of returning to his home state and suiting up for the Jayhawks adds another layer of intrigue.

If Kansas does land Edwards, they’d be getting a dynamic back with big-play ability and something to prove. And for Edwards, it could be the perfect opportunity to hit reset and remind people just how dangerous he can be with the ball in his hands.
