Kansas Coach Bill Self Calls Upcoming Matchup Season's Most Crucial Test

As Kansas prepares for a crucial road game against Oklahoma State, Coach Bill Self highlights its significance for the season's momentum.

Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self joined Brian Hanni on "Hawk Talk" to discuss the Jayhawks' recent journey, following a tough 74-56 defeat to No. 6 Iowa State.

The conversation naturally turned to the fans' anticipation after the Jayhawks' impressive victory over No. 4 Arizona.

With No. 2 Houston looming on the home schedule, excitement is in the air.

However, Self is keeping his team grounded. Before they can focus on Houston, there's a crucial road game against Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

"The next game is always the biggest," Self emphasized. "To make the Houston game significant, we need to handle business against Oklahoma State first."

Self's connection to Oklahoma State runs deep. A native of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, he spent 11 years with the Cowboys, both as a player and an assistant coach.

Despite these ties, returning to Stillwater doesn't stir the emotions it once might have. "Oklahoma’s special, but it’s not home anymore," Self reflected.

"We've been there so often; it's about the game now."

Fans can catch the next "Hawk Talk" episode on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. via the Jayhawk Radio Network or Kansas Athletics website. Replays will be available on Cox Communications and ESPN+ the following day.
