Royals Speedster Terrance Gore Honored by Wife With Touching Funeral Request

As the baseball world mourns Terrance Gore, his wifes heartfelt request for his funeral offers a touching glimpse into the life and legacy of the beloved former Royals speedster.

The baseball world is mourning the loss of former Royals outfielder and World Series champion Terrance Gore, who passed away unexpectedly on February 6 at just 34 years old.

Gore’s wife, Britney, shared heartbreaking details about what happened during an interview with WMBB-TV in Panama City, Florida. According to Britney, Gore underwent emergency surgery to have his appendix removed. While he initially appeared to be recovering, complications arose-potentially related to anesthesia-and he went into cardiac arrest.

It’s a devastating end for a player whose story was defined by speed, hustle, and a relentless love for the game. Gore was part of the Kansas City Royals' 2015 World Series-winning team, a squad remembered for its grit and energy-qualities Gore embodied every time he stepped onto the field. Though he was often used as a pinch-runner or late-inning defensive weapon, his impact was outsized, and his presence in the clubhouse was always felt.

A series of memorials will give friends, fans, and former teammates a chance to say goodbye. The first visitation is set for Friday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southerland Family Funeral Home in Panama City. A celebration of life will follow on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church, also in Panama City-a city that played a key role in Gore’s early baseball journey, as he played collegiately at Gulf Coast State College.

Britney Gore shared that she hopes players and coaches will honor Terrance by wearing jerseys to the services-a fitting tribute for someone whose passion for baseball was undeniable.

“Terrance loved the game of baseball, and that was his true passion,” she said. “It’s only fair to celebrate him in what he loved.”

Gore’s final resting place will be in Georgia, where he grew up. A second visitation is scheduled for February 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Richard R.

Robinson Funeral Home in Macon. The following day, a celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. at Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia, with interment to follow at Mount Calvary Baptist Church Lakeside Cemetery in Macon.

Northstar Church in Panama City has launched a fundraiser to support Gore’s wife and children. Donations can be made by selecting “In Memory of Terrance Gore” from the church’s giving options.

Gore’s legacy goes far beyond the basepaths. He was a teammate, a husband, a father, and a beloved figure in every clubhouse he entered.

While his on-field moments often came in short bursts-stolen bases, late-game substitutions, postseason cameos-they were always electric. And for those who knew him, his impact off the field was even greater.

Gone far too soon, Terrance Gore leaves behind a legacy of heart, hustle, and the kind of love for baseball that can’t be taught.
