The Royals are headed to one of baseball’s most iconic settings in 2027.
MLB announced that Kansas City will face the Red Sox in the “Field of Dreams” game on August 12, 2027, in Dyersville, Iowa. The Royals will be the home team, and the matchup will air exclusively on NBC Sports.
The league’s next trip to the cornfield comes after the Phillies beat the Twins in this year’s event, which was played last night. With the 2027 game, MLB will be staging the fourth installment of the Field of Dreams showcase, a nod to the 1989 film starring Kevin Costner.
“Royals territory already covers the Midwest, including Dyersville, so this is a natural fit that provides Royals fans a chance to cheer on the home team in a magical setting,” Royals President of Business Operations Cullen Maxey said. “We are thrilled to showcase our athletes through one of Major League Baseball’s most cherished events and help to grow the game to a worldwide audience,”
Kansas City’s trip to Iowa will come on a Thursday, with the club getting a Friday off-day before returning to regular season play against Boston on Saturday and Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.
MLB has now listed three previous Field of Dreams games: the White Sox’ 9-8 win over the Yankees in 2021, the Cubs’ 4-2 win over the Reds in 2022, and the Phillies’ 7-1 win over the Twins in 2026.
The ballpark in Dyersville is now a permanent venue, opening this year with 3,000 seats and the ability to expand to 8,000 temporarily. Its dimensions run 335 down the lines, 380 to the alleys and 400 to center, with ballpark references to old Comiskey Park in Chicago. In past years, tickets have been handled through a lottery that was limited to Iowa residents, with some tickets set aside for each participating team.
