Royals Finally Break Through With Big Braves Win

Royals break their scoring drought with timely hits and strong pitching to claim their first victory of the season against the Braves.

The Royals finally broke through with a win, and it was a refreshing sight for fans. After a couple of scoreless games, they found their rhythm, starting with a leadoff walk in the third inning to Jac Caglianone.

Although Nick Loftin hit into a double play, a successful challenge kept him on base, setting the stage for Maikel Garcia's infield single and Bobby Witt Jr.'s clutch RBI single, marking their first hit with a runner in scoring position this season. That 1-0 lead must have felt like a weight lifted off their shoulders.

Carter Jensen added to the momentum in the fourth inning with a powerful 371-foot homer into the right field seats-his first of the season. Jensen's been showing promise in the early games, and it was great to see his efforts pay off, pushing the Royals to a 2-0 lead.

The Royals kept the pressure on in the fifth. Nick Loftin kicked things off with a double down the left field line and was brought home by Vinnie Pasquantino’s two-out single, making it three consecutive innings with a run. This offensive surge was more than they managed in the previous two games combined.

On the mound, Seth Lugo was in top form, reminiscent of his 2024 performances. He delivered a stellar 6.1 innings, allowing just five hits with no runs or walks, and striking out three. It was the second quality start for the Royals, a promising sign that they aren't over-relying on their bullpen early in the season.

Matt Strahm came in to relieve Lugo in the seventh, with a runner on second and one out. He coolly retired the two Braves he faced, continuing his strong start to the season.

In the eighth, Bobby Witt Jr. drew a leadoff walk, and Vinnie's single put runners on the corners. Carter Jensen then drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 4-0.

John Schreiber made his season debut in the bottom of the eighth. After a solid start, he gave up a solo home run to Drake Baldwin but rebounded by striking out Matt Olson to end the inning.

With Carlos Estevez facing some issues after last night's game, Lucas Erceg was called upon to close it out. True to his nickname, "Lights Out" Lucas delivered, striking out Austin Riley and inducing a game-ending double play from Ozzie Albies following a single by Mike Yastrzemski. The Royals secured a 4-1 victory, avoiding a sweep and earning their first win of the season.

Now sitting at 1-2, the Royals head into their home opener against the Minnesota Twins with renewed confidence. They'll wrap up this six-game homestand with the Milwaukee Brewers next weekend.

Tomorrow's first pitch is set for 3:10 p.m. CT, available on Royals.TV or KCTV5/KSMO.

Fans will be eager to see if this win sparks a turnaround.
