Royals Fan With ALS Sends Message Players Wont Forget

Royals superfan Sarah Nauser, battling ALS, delivers a heartfelt message to players, reminding them of the profound impact they have on fans' lives.

Kauffman Stadium has long been a sanctuary for Sarah Nauser. From her teenage days after softball practice to her final moments in uniform as a police officer, The K has been a constant in her life. Diagnosed with ALS in May 2018, Nauser has since become one of the Kansas City Royals' most cherished fans, earning admiration from players past and present.

In a touching tribute to her resilience, the Royals gifted Nauser a custom wheelchair on MLB’s Lou Gehrig Day, a nod to the Yankees legend who succumbed to ALS. Despite the challenges, Nauser remains a passionate advocate for those battling the disease, embodying the belief that life can still be extraordinary.

This spring, she spent time with the Royals during training, gearing up for the new season alongside her beloved team. Recently, she shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, urging players to draw inspiration from fans like her who find strength in the game.

Her message reads:

“Dear Royals,

A new season brings fresh starts, hope, and renewed determination. I’m Sarah Nauser, and for eight years, I’ve been battling ALS, known to many as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Like Lou, despite the challenges, I have so much to live for-my family, friends, fellow ALS fighters, and Royals baseball.

This organization has supported me in unimaginable ways, lifting my spirit and fueling my determination. Royals baseball is my escape from ALS, a reminder that I’m not alone in this fight. It’s more than a game; it’s a lifeline for me and many fans.

Purpose fuels perseverance. It’s what helps me through my journey and will guide you through the season’s challenges.

I hope you look up into the stands and remember: You matter. You are an inspiration.

You are heroes to children dreaming of wearing that uniform.

You bring hope to people like me, reminding us that life is beautiful and worth fighting for. You’ve given me courage and strength to fight a battle I was once told I couldn’t win. But I am winning, every day, because I’m still here.

Cheering for this team is one of my life’s greatest honors. So, this season, fight like a Royal.

Love, Sarah.”

Nauser’s words are a powerful reminder of the impact sports can have, transcending the game itself to inspire and uplift. Her story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the profound connection between a team and its fans.
