Former Royals Starter Suddenly Lands In An Uncomfortable Trade Conversation

Could the Cincinnati Reds find a market for Brady Singer as they look to shake up their roster before the trade deadline?

The Cincinnati Reds are trending toward seller mode at the trade deadline, and Brady Singer looks like one of the arms who could be on the move.

Cincinnati sits near the bottom of the National League standings, which puts Eugenio Suarez in the mix as another possible trade candidate. Tyler Stephenson is also in that same bucket, with his contract expiring and the New York Yankees mentioned as a potential fit if they can’t land Ryan Jeffers or Hunter Goodman.

Singer, though, is the pitcher drawing the most attention in this discussion. FanSided’s Zachary Rotman pointed to the right-hander as a possible trade piece, even with a season that has not gone the way the Reds hoped.

"Brady Singer was a rock-solid back-end starter for the Reds last season who took the ball every fifth day and gave them a chance to win most of the time," Rotman wrote. "That has not been the case this season, as evidenced by his MLB-leading nine losses."

Singer’s numbers back that up. The former Kansas City Royals starter has posted a 4.72 ERA while allowing 20 home runs in 89.2 innings this season.

That kind of profile may not scream impact addition for the top of a rotation, but it does still carry value for a contender. Singer could slot in as a fifth starter and then move to the bullpen once the postseason begins.

"As underwhelming as he's been, Singer should generate some interest given the fact that, at the very least, he's a proven innings-eater," Rotman added. "Given that, and the fact that he's on an expiring contract, it should be obvious to move him."

And in the final months of the season, there’s usually room for a pitcher who can absorb innings and handle lower-leverage work. Singer could fit that role for a playoff club, and there’s at least a chance he winds up as a useful bullpen piece somewhere.

Royals Add Pitching Depth As Another 40-Man Decision Looms

The Royals kept working the margins of their pitching staff Tuesday, adding a right-hander from Milwaukee as they continue to sort through the back end of the roster. The move gives Kansas City another arm to stash in the system, and it comes after the pitcher had been designated for assignment by the Brewers last week.

He brings a recent mix of big-league and Triple-A experience, including a pair of brief outings in Milwaukee this season and a strong run in the minors since the start of 2025. For the Royals, the immediate question is less about the cost of the deal than how they keep the 40-man roster moving, especially with another injury-related decision already part of the shuffle. Jac Caglianone Put Royals Power On Display With One Detail Fans Loved

Jac Caglianones first Home Run Derby appearance gave Royals fans exactly the kind of power display they had been hoping to see. Under the lights at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the rookie showed off the kind of raw pop that has made him such a buzzworthy part of Kansas Citys future, and he did it with enough authority to turn heads well beyond the Royals fan base.

The best swing of the night came when one of his drives kept carrying all the way to the third deck, a reminder of just how loud his contact can be when he squares one up. Caglianone finished with eight homers in the opening round, and even without a trip to the next stage, the debut reinforced why his bat has become such a big draw for Kansas City. [Read more 🡒]
