Bobby Witt Jr. has been dazzling fans with his elite baseball skills for a few years now, and his faith plays a big role in his journey. Recently, he took a significant step that might just give him an extra boost this season.
On March 23, fresh off a strong performance at the World Baseball Classic where he helped Team USA secure a runner-up finish, Witt received the sacrament of confirmation. This religious rite symbolizes being "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit," a milestone he had postponed due to his demanding baseball schedule.
Witt and his wife, Maggie, first had their marriage confirmed. Then, Witt returned to his hometown of Colleyville, Texas, to complete his confirmation with Friar Zachary Burns at Good Shepherd Catholic Community. They spent about a month preparing for this meaningful ceremony.
“It was awesome, just because our faith is huge in our family. So it’s just great to be able to finally get confirmed in the Catholic Church,” Witt shared.
“Just give all glory to God. It’s something I’ve always done growing up, and now I just feel fully committed to my faith.”
Friar Burns, who officiated the ceremony, praised Witt’s quiet conviction and deep faith, expressing confidence that Witt would be a strong role model both on and off the field. “Congrats, man! And best of luck this season (just go easy on my Yanks, please),” Burns added with a touch of humor.
Heading into the 2026 season, Witt and his teammates are riding high from their World Baseball Classic experience. The 25-year-old shortstop was a defensive anchor and a key offensive player for Team USA, often leading off the batting order.
The Royals’ management is optimistic about their young core, seeing them evolve from promising prospects into rising stars. Manager Matt Quatraro highlights their personal growth as a significant factor.
“There’s a tremendous amount of learning that goes on year to year,” Quatraro noted. “As they mature as people and learn what’s important to them, I think that’s a very fair assessment.”
As a two-time All-Star, Witt is expected to help lead the Royals back to the playoffs after a tough 2025 season. Driven by his love for the game and grounded in his faith, he’s aiming for a standout year.
“We have an amazing team. It’s going to be an amazing year,” Witt said confidently.
“All the guys are really comfortable and confident in what our preparation has got us to. We learned a lot from last year, learned a lot from two years ago.”
Friar Burns left Royals fans with one more encouraging note, playfully suggesting that with the Holy Spirit’s blessing, an MVP season could be on the horizon for Witt.
