Kansas City Royals: Bailey Falter's Second Act
Bailey Falter joined the Kansas City Royals midseason in 2025, and let's just say it wasn't the smoothest transition. Adjusting to a new team can be tough, and Falter faced his share of challenges.
Initially brought on as a starter, he found himself pitching out of the bullpen-a role he wasn't quite used to. The result?
A tough 11.25 ERA over four games.
Fast forward to this spring, and Falter is determined to make a stronger impression. His live batting practice sessions have been turning heads, drawing praise from Royals manager Matt Quatraro. “He looks great physically,” Quatraro noted, highlighting Falter's improved demeanor and the impressive carry on his pitches.
Quatraro acknowledged the difficulties Falter faced upon joining the team. “He was in a tough spot,” Quatraro said.
“He was banged up, and we probably saw him at his worst. But he’s put that behind him and moved forward tremendously.”
Falter's journey this season is one to watch. With no minor-league options left, his role could evolve into a swingman or hybrid position in the bullpen. During Cactus League play, the Royals plan to explore his versatility, building him up as a starter while testing him in various scenarios.
Among the Royals' pitching options, Falter stands out for his experience. While he lacks the minor-league flexibility of Ryan Bergert and Stephen Kolek, and doesn't have the momentum of Noah Cameron's standout 2025 season, Falter brings seasoned know-how to the table.
A strong spring performance could earn him a spot on the roster, showcasing his ability to adapt and contribute in multiple roles. If Falter can tap into his veteran savvy, he just might become a key asset for the Royals this season.
