Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce now have a new place to land in Ohio, and it comes with a lot more than just a Lake Erie address.
In March, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end bought a $5.35 million estate in Bratenahl, not far from his childhood home of Cleveland Heights, according to The Wall Street Journal. The property sits on the shores of Lake Erie and includes an eight-bedroom mansion.
The house has been around a long time. Built in 1895, it once belonged to the president of Sherwin-Williams Co., according to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. It also has a pop-culture footnote: an episode of the 1960s show “Route 66” was filmed there.
Bratenahl itself is a small pocket with a very specific geography. Cleveland Historical says the village is bordered on three sides by Cleveland and on the fourth by Lake Erie.
The estate spans 3.5 acres, and The Agency Cleveland described it in a YouTube post as a “gilded-age grande dame” that went through “an extensive year-long transformation” to bring it “into the 21st century.” The same description pointed to a newly built bluestone patio and pool, along with restored original door hardware, as part of the renovation.
It’s also conveniently located near a private airport, according to Realtor.com, which fits a couple constantly on the move.
Swift, of course, has never been shy about collecting homes with character. Architectural Digest has noted that her holdings have included a $2 million duplex penthouse and a $2.5 million Greek Revival, both in Nashville, plus her $17.75 million Rhode Island estate on the ocean and a Manhattan home in Tribeca.
This Ohio place checks a lot of her usual boxes. It has a grand staircase, an elegant dining room with a butler’s pantry, and a pool. The interior also features massive fireplaces, wainscoting, beamed ceilings with plaster designs, leaded glass French doors and an observatory topped by an amber glass skylight.
In the center hall foyer, the black walnut double staircase is carved with lions. And during Prohibition, the ballroom served as a speakeasy.
The house was designed in 1902 by Chicago architect Jarvis Hunt, with gardens, stables and several other buildings on the grounds, including a gardener’s cottage. Hunt later became known for Union Station in Kansas City and a building at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.
His design for this home centered on a striking front entrance, with brick columns framing a large front door with wrought iron hinges. Case Western Reserve University described the exterior this way: “The exterior design is symmetrical, with an imposing central entrance with carved pediments supported by brick columns that frames a large front door with wrought iron hinges,” Case Western Reserve University noted.
“The façade is framed by terracotta coping at the corners with a large, enclosed porch. An elaborate dormer dresses the roof line.
The front facade had stone castellations typical of Tudor and Gothic Revival styles. The outside of the home also features double-hung windows and four elaborate brick chimneys.”
The property has also been updated for modern living. The kitchen is all white and spacious, with two islands - plenty of room for the sourdough Swift has reportedly been baking lately.
Swift’s interest in historic homes is no secret. After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in March 2024 and during a break from her Eras Tour, the couple stayed at the Beverly Hills estate Swift bought in 2014 and renovated.
Built in 1934 by movie producer Samuel L. Goldwyn Sr., the seven-bedroom mansion was later bought by Swift for a reported $25 million in 2015, when ABC News called it the “proud owner of a piece of movie history.”
Swift also secured landmark designation for the home and oversaw a careful restoration, including work on the pool.
WYKC-TV shared a photo of the outside of the Ohio house, and a Swift fan posted a closer look on social media. The Agency Cleveland also shared a YouTube video in 2024 showing the inside of the property.
