Travis Kelce Just Gave Chiefs Fans A New Reason To Believe

Despite whispers of decline, Travis Kelce's recent practice performance has sparked a viral sensation, proving he still possesses the skills to make a significant impact.

Travis Kelce reminded everyone at Chiefs training camp that he does not need to run by defenders to beat them.

A clip shared by Mark Poulose captured Kelce in a one-on-one rep against safety Alohi Gilman, and the tight end did the damage with patience, footwork and one sharp feint. He never looked like he was trying to outrun Gilman.

He didn’t have to. Kelce created the space anyway, leaving the safety reaching for air as the rep ended.

Poulose captioned the video, “Travis Kelce ROUTS UP Alohi Gilman in 1-on-1’s.”

The reaction came fast once the play started making the rounds. One fan wrote, “Somebody gotta tell Gilman that 87s don’t get tired, they get even.”

Another pointed to Kansas City’s situation at the position, saying, “We need help at Safety.” A third added, “I know I’m not a football player but I would’ve torn both ACLs trying to defend that.”

Another comment summed up the move with, “Getting juked in slow motion is crazy.” One more user chimed in, “That DB is getting cut, fs.”

The timing of the rep matters, too. Kelce is heading into his 14th NFL season after a rougher 2025 campaign that left some evaluators doubting what he has left. One NFL scout recently told insider Jason La Canfora that Kelce’s days as a difference-maker are already behind him, and that gives this camp every chance to become a response.

There has also been plenty of noise around Kelce’s conditioning this offseason, much of it fueled by viral, AI-generated images exaggerating his frame. Andy Reid has already shut that down, saying Kelce arrived at camp in the same shape he has always been in.

Reid has continued to rely on him as one of the Chiefs’ most dependable veterans, even having to pull him off the field at times because he keeps pushing for more reps. That has matched the tone Kelce has set since camp opened, working through drills with Patrick Mahomes and newly signed running back Kenneth Walker III as Kansas City resets after missing the playoffs in 2025.

The Chiefs open the season Sept. 14 at home against the Denver Broncos. If this latest rep is any hint, Kelce plans to make sure nobody spends the next few weeks questioning whether he still has it.

Chiefs Tension Around Harrison Butker Just Got Harder To Ignore

Harrison Butker opened the Chiefs preseason with the kind of performance that usually quiets everything else around a kicker. He made all three field goal attempts in Kansas Citys preseason opener, including a 59-yard kick, giving the team a clean reminder that his leg is still very much part of the equation as camp pushes forward.

But the football side is only part of the conversation around Butker right now. His relationship with Travis Kelce has reportedly been strained since Butkers controversial commencement speech earlier in 2024, and the ripple effect has apparently carried into the locker room, where some teammates have taken sides and the unease has become hard to miss. For a veteran group that has spent years selling continuity, it is the sort of off-field tension that can linger well beyond one exhibition game. [Read more 🡒]

Andy Reid Sends Clear Message After Chiefs' Sloppy Preseason Opener

The Chiefs preseason opener against the Rams gave Andy Reid an early checklist, and the biggest item was hard to miss. Kansas City was flagged 12 times for 101 yards, a level of sloppiness that repeatedly stalled drives and even wiped out a touchdown, leaving the head coach focused less on the final score than on the self-inflicted damage.

Patrick Mahomes remained out as he continues to recover from a torn ACL, so rookie Garrett Nussmeier handled most of the snaps while the offense tried to find a rhythm without its starter. For Reid, the bigger concern was not who was on the field so much as how often the Chiefs put themselves behind schedule, a problem that can turn an August tune-up into an unwanted warning sign if it lingers. Chiefs Fans Have Extra Reason To Savor Arrowhead Tailgating This Year

Arrowhead tailgating is already in full swing this preseason, and for plenty of Chiefs fans, the parking lots are the real opening act. It is the familiar mix of food, grilling, and conversation that has long helped define game day in Kansas City, the kind of ritual that brings generations of fans together before the first whistle ever sounds.

With a new stadium planned down the road, some longtime supporters are treating this stretch as a chance to soak up the old routine a little more intentionally. The Chiefs still have preseason and regular-season home dates ahead, but for fans who have built their Sundays around Arrowhead, there is a little extra emotion attached to every tailgate this year.
